About this deal

These Amarena Cherry Ricotta Bars were inspired by a recent trip to Italy. While in Florence, Andrew and I did an amazing four-hour walking tour of the city. The traditional pairing of chocolate and cherries is given new life by this cherry chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce has a richer, less sweet flavor since it is created with dark brown sugar, while the cherries are tart and very sweet. Looking for a quality sweet vermouth on a budget? This one is more delicate, but still has plenty of spice along with vanilla flavors. Traverse City is known as the "cherry capital of the world." It hosts the National Cherry Festival every summer, and the surrounding region of northern Michigan grows a large percentage of the nation's cherries. So it only makes sense that a whiskey distillery in the city would candy its own cherries! After a leisurely bath in the house whiskey gives the fruits notes of smoke and char, they're slow-cooked in large copper pots until soft and chewy. The cherry varietal the distillery uses is balaton, a sour cherry originally from Hungary that's very tart and deeply colored. It's the perfect topper for a boozy vice cream sundae. Prunus Avium, a variation of the wild cherry, and Prunus Cesarus, a species of cherry known for its tart and slightly bitter flavor, are combined to create amarena cherries. Run a sharp knife along the length of a vanilla bean, open it and with a blade of a knife scrape out the seeds.
