The 1 st Duke of Northumberland had the Brizlee Tower constructed in the memory of his wife Lady Elizabeth Seymour in 1781. Situated in Hulne Park, this Gothic revival style tower is 26m (6 floors) high. You can almost imagine Rapunzel at the top of the tower, can’t you? When you’re staying in Northumberland visiting the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is a must. The enchanting coastal island is rich with history and nature – from the ancient monks to migrating arctic birds. We tend to know our beers, and are proud of our range of top local breweries, but what about other boozy treats? We have the region's only winery - Laneberg Wine in Gateshead - which is a hidden treasure in Team Valley where it takes English grapes and then crushes, processes and bottles at its Team Valley plant to produce award-winning wonders.
