About this deal

When we switch the Sony a7R II to full frame mode, the image gets a little bit worse, but is still beautiful. It resolves a bit less detail and there is some more aliasing / moiré introduced than on the crop mode. Still very usable. Most tend to desire to apply any noise reduction after with more complex software and want no "baking" done to captured raw images. Shame Sony or another respectable maker doesn't make such adapters. This one looks very cheaply made and I doubt many people would risk mounting their heavy premium lens. Both cameras mentioned can bring home astrophotos (the sensitivity in the Ha line is somewhat limited). The A7S might be the best choice if into low light video.

That is 64x the amount of color information which has a massive effect on banding, color fringing, and accuracy of the final image. For still images, the α7S II's ISO is 100–102400 with expansion down to ISO 50 and up to ISO 409600 equivalent. For movies, the α7S II's ISO is 100-102400 equivalent with expansion down to ISO 100 and up to ISO 409600 equivalent. For still images or movies on auto setting, the camera's ISO is 100–12800 with selectable lower and upper limits. [2] Shutter [ edit ]As we’re currently in Japan for InterBEE (tradeshow next week) the large Japanese symbols reveal how strong the aliasing in HD mode really is. The only thing really missing from the A7S II compared to Sony's professional large sensor video cameras is built-in neutral density filters. As with other video SLRs/CSCs you will need to add a neutral density filter to your lens so you can use wide apertures for shallow depth of field while keep shutter speed to 1/50sec or longer. Thank you for the review of this camera. I was waiting for it to be online, because I really was thinking about buying this camera. According to Sony's test figures, it improves the A7S III's stamina by 60% compared to the A7S II, with 95 minutes of video recording via the LCD (compared to 60 minutes on the A7S II) and 600 shots per charge (up from 370 frames on its predecessor). A fully articulating screen like the one of the A7S III is really the gold standard for video shooting (albeit a divisive one for stills shooters), and it's about time we saw one on an A7-series camera. 6. Interface

In your opinion, irrespective of the price difference, would the A7S or A7SII be the better choice, and why? One thing that is way more obvious to see on the A7S III in those absurdly high ISOs is that the A7S III uses a lot more noise reduction in high ISOs and the results are very apparent in the image. Like the a7S, the a7 II has the ability to record in the XAVC S codec, which offers a 50MBps bit rate at 1080/60p (as well as 1080/30p and 1080/24p). Recording in AVCHD and MP4 also remain an option. The real cherry on the Sony A7S III's filmmaking cake is its new fully articulating touchscreen, which Sony recently introduced on the Sony ZV-1. In lowlight and noise the Sony a7S II is clearly the winner with an edge of about 2 stops. However the Sony a7R II in crop mode is a pretty good performer. It can retain good shadow detail up until ISO 25,600, but there is clearly more noise than on the a7S II. If you want the best and cleanest lowlight camera go for the a7S II. Which One Is Right for You?

Whether or not you need a 10-bit full-frame video camera is another matter –if depends on where you're planning to publish your videos and how much grading you tend to do. An 8-bit camera like the A7S II may still be fine for your needs, and it's also worth bearing in mind that there are more affordable 10-bit cameras (albeit with smaller sensors) than the A7S III, such as the Panasonic GH5. 3. Design What’s more, the accuracy is not much better, and they’ve managed to fix that awful warm bias that occurred when the A7S II was pushed higher. a b Murnane, Kevin.
