We advise that a round pot or grow-bag cultivated Eucalyptus is never planted out in the ground to prevent it becoming a liability. Eucalyptus with badly trained roots can die in the cold or fall over in high winds. seed potatoes yielded 3.5lb (1.6kg) of potatoes from the same amount of compost etc. Many of these were smaller than a golf ball, although there were some larger ones. A tomato grower who uses basic potting compost, a traditional pot and waters whenever the soil seems dry, will need a bigger pot to achieve good results than someone who gives their plants exactly what they need – when they need it. The extra soil in a larger pot acts as a buffer zone or safety net! The above applies to container growing. If planting directly into the garden soil, or growing on an allotment, the bigger the root system, the better. Water. All living things need water to survive, however, potato plants need extra care and attention when watering. The soil should be kept at a relatively consistent level of moisture, not too wet and not too dry. If the ground is allowed to dry up the plant and foliage will die but if there is too much water in the soil your potatoes will rot in the ground. Choosing the correct potato bags and containers
The pots have strong grab handles on either side, which make them easy to move around safely whenever you need to do so. They also have pre-formed drainage holes on the bottom and side to ensure your plants will never become waterlogged because any excess water can freely drain away. The long edges form the top and bottom rims of the pot. The diagonal cut edges overlap to form a seal – a bit like unfirling a cardboard loo roll tube. You could practice joining the diagonal edges together now. Rot capping is when surface roots become so pot-bound that they form a cap of tight fibrous roots at the soil surface. Oxygen is prevented from entering into the root area below and the gasses that are given off by respiration are prevented from escaping. Growing potatoes in pots is especially suited to first early and second early potatoes, which grow fast and are at a premium in the shops.
