About this deal

So most of the time you have to roll under your skill on a D100. Skill values seem to be around the 50 to 70 mark so a Z character seems to be about the competency of a 4th to 7th level RM character. If you just added the skill to the d100 then you can use Z characters in RM easily enough or roll under your RM skills to use your favourite RM character in a Z adventure. I will return to this later in a different post to see if I can refine these rules. Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Skrazzak civilization is based around dedication to their mothers, with each female becoming the new Hive Queen of an entire tribe. When it comes to character classes, the game is still pretty confusing. I counted twice to make sure: there are 72 basic professions in Zweihander. There are also 46 elite professions. One important thing to note though, that is really good, is that just in the classes alone, there is literally an entire world of lore. You could easily build entire campaigns just by reading through the professions section in this book. The game has “Fury” and “Chaos” dice, which are “wild dice” for damage and random effects when casting magic.

ZWEIHÄNDER is built with modularity baked into the rules and able to be modified without upsetting the inherent balance of the system. I do feel you have a misunderstanding about what the community content program’s intention is. It boils down to accessibility. Creators don’t oftentimes have cash to dole out for Indesign templates, for artwork, for access to early playtest material and game design rules that have underwent rigorous play testing. They also don’t have an audience, understand how to market on DriveThruRPG or have the business advantages we do we publishers. That is what the community content program solves for. But I do have opinions, and one of them that the OSR is at its best when sharing open content. A thing that doesn't just benefit a particular system or edition but the entire hobby. The way to ensure that the OSR continues to stand for sharing open content, is to share. Share your thoughts on open content, make content and share under a open license like the OGL, and support those who do share open content. I spend a lot of time playing with people new to tabletop RPGs. I love introducing the genre. It’s a passion of mine to help people find passion in tabletop gaming. The bottom line for me when it comes to Zweihander is that due to its complexity, it’s just not the game I would ever introduce to a first-time tabletop gamer. To be very forthright with you though if you’ve never before heard of or played Zweihander, in my experience, most people would never play more than 1-2 sessions of this RPG before calling it quits.Second every program except the Genesys Foundry but including the Grim & Perilous Library has the following restriction. This excerpt is taken from the license attached to the Grim & Perilous Library. Some games are not intended to be beginner games. If you are not a beginner game then you don’t really need a primer on how to role play and what an RPG is. If on the other hand you are pitching your game at entirely new role players then you do need a decent tutorial section to help people get into and fall in love with our hobby. So at this point it looks like a basic roll under system. With opposed tests we get a mechanic called Degrees of Success and Degrees of Failure.

I think doing so would easily overwhelm someone, and maybe even turn them off from the RPG genre if they thought every game was like this one. This is the first in a short series of articles on Zweihänder. If you missed the introductory post you can find it here.To give you an idea of how hardcore game realism tends to play out with a gaming group – and what I’d do were to play an entire campaign of Zweihander – is that most in-depth rules like those mentioned above (character injuries, carrying capacity, etc.) simple get ignored. Zweihänder Grim & Perilous RPG, Injury & Mishap Cards by Daniel Fox, Andrews McMeel Publishing 2018. I can see where the confusion comes from, and your post highlights the problem. We will reach out to DTRPG to do so. NOTE: I find that when I start out on these sorts of read throughs I can quite negative. I have preconceptions of how I think things should be and then when I don’t find it it is discomforting. Then as I get through the book and I see how things all hang together and I am more familiar I get more comfortable and consequently more positive. Just bear that in mind if this comes off as a bit negative. Mana: For Archmages or Elementalists, high Corruption respectively restricts spellcasting or prohibits it altogether, causing their Karma Meter to double as a Mana Meter.

Zweihander mechanics dismantle my plot in the first session Zweihander mechanics dismantle my plot in the first session

On the bright side, everyone loved it and the campaign is still going, so this is more about my own fumble than a problem player For everyone who worked to support the classic editions 'as is' dozens more emerged to take them into new direction. New genres, or infusing a new version with a different tone or tenor than the originals. All of this was possible because the use of open content placed no restrictions on the next author imagination. The main requirement being is that anything you use or is based on open content must also be open content along with retaining proper credit. The subtitle for Zweihänder is “Grim & Perilous RPG” and honestly there’s no better way to describe it. It’s dense as treacle, dangerous as a raging fire and grimmer than a taxi queue at 3am, with a thoroughly old-school feel that will delight veteran gamers without driving away curious newcomers.
