The first step is to stop adding aluminium sulphate and mulch with regular compost rather than ericaceous compost. Vitax Hydrangea Colourant won’t feed your plants it will simply cause the flowers to change colour, so you might want to also use a general purpose plant food or Vitax Hydrangea Feed for the ultimate blooms. Features Vitax Hydrangea Colourant is the perfect product if you want to keep or even turn your Hydrangeas Blue. When I changed the soil pH to between 6.5 and 7, those same hydrangeas started to turn pink or red, and at 7 or above, they were a deeper red and more vibrant pink. Perfect for changing the colour of your hydrangeas from their natural pink colour, this colourant acidifies the soil to promote the growth of blue flowers. The colourant works best on pale pink flowers but can be used on darker flowers turning them a mauve colour.
