About this deal

Ector, Kay, Pellinore, Arthur, and Archimedes travel to London for the tournament. Moments before Kay's match, Arthur realizes that he has forgotten Kay's sword at their inn, which is now closed because of the tournament. Archimedes notices a sword in a stone in a nearby churchyard and points it out to Arthur, who pulls the sword from the stone, unwittingly fulfilling the Sword in the Stone’s prophecy. STONES OF POWER: THE SIPSTRASSI OMNIBUS(Ghost King, Last Sword of Power, Wolf in Shadow, The Last Guardian) The film cuts to Arthur, now crowned King, sitting in the throne room with Archimedes, feeling completely unprepared to take the responsibility of royalty. Overwhelmed by the cheering crowd outside, Arthur calls out to Merlin for help, who arrives (in 20th-century attire) and is delighted to find that Arthur is the King that he had seen in the future. Merlin tells the boy that he will rise and lead the Knights of the Round Table, accomplishing many amazing feats and becoming one of the most famous figures in literature and even in motion pictures (such as this film). Before Camelot, before Excalibur and the Round Table, and Lancelot and Guinevere, there was a boy who would one day be the legendary King Arthur. And Harriett recommends the classic, magical children's novel, 'The Sword In The Stone' by T. H. White, which she argues merits re-reading as an adult.

He was an English master at Stowe School from 1930 to 1936 and died aboard a ship in Piraeus, Greece, on January 17. Mr. White was 57 years old. He was returning home to England after a lecture tour in the United States. All in all, T. H. White’s novel displays a somewhat loose, slow-paced plotline and focuses on atmospheric and idyllic descriptions of the forest and countryside, the sky and stars, the techniques of jousting and falconry, the seasons that come and go, the pranks and funny episodes, the songs and fairytales by the fireside. It is a utopian and delightful book for all ages, that reads as a mellow, decorative and nostalgic reverie around the legends of young Arthur, with a narrator that is always gently present and introduces subtle and unworried references to the 20th century — never hinting at the fact that the book was written just before World War II’s darkest hours. It has very little to do with Le Morte d’Arthur : it instead made me think of the old infancy gospels (the legendary Apocrypha around the childhood of Jesus) or, even more, of the idealised images of the Middle Ages in the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. Obviously (quite explicitly in fact), the story of this young Wart is also in line with the tale of Cinderella. The Sword in the Stone is one of my favourite Disney movies, so of course I had to read the book(s) eventually too. And doing it though audiobooks was definitely the right choice because the narrator made my life.

Merlin knew that Arthur came from royalty. Merlin notice how the animals follow him. so people will follow him as well. It matter because he was suppose to be king one day. The Sword in the Stone is classed as a “Junior” book, suitable for ages 9 to 12. This puzzles me. Perhaps it may have appealed to some youngsters of this age when it was written, especially the privileged prep school boys. But now, I wonder. I suspect it appeals more to adults. I first read it in my 20s, and again now. It has a quaint drollery, and is full of facts about medieval times, which some may become immersed in. It is a classic, and the tetralogy is unique. Perhaps this may be why of those of my friends who have read it, nearly all seem to have rated it at 5 stars, (although few have reviewed it).

The film begins in England with the death of the king, Uther Pendragon. No heir is named, and so England is threatened to be torn apart by war. Miraculously, the mystical " Sword in the Stone" appears in London, with an inscription proclaiming that whomever pulls it out is the rightful King of England. Many try to remove the sword, but none succeed and the sword is soon forgotten, leaving England in dark ages. Right away,” said Arthur. But where was it? Arthur looked around in panic. Kay’s spear, battle-axe, and dagger were right where they should be. But no sword. “Kay…” he said, “how about a battle-axe?” Although The Sword in the Stone is geared more towards children and young people than the rest of the books in the “The Once and Future King” tetralogy, they all explores parallels between the Arthurian world and the modern one. T.H. White frequently tries to link its morals to contemporary events. Yet far away, there was a quiet place. A good knight, Sir Ector, lived in peace with his two sons. His first son was named Kay. His younger son Arthur had been adopted as a baby. Years before, a stranger had come to Sir Ector with a baby. He asked if Sir Ector would raise the child. The old knight took the baby in his arms, glad for a second child. He named the baby Arthur, and raised the child as his own.
