About this deal

Of course, since I have the B version, that's voiced like a K240, I have the "Balanced" version. Nothing balanced about the highs though... For the price , these headphones are built solidly, fit comfortably and sound great especially lower frequency response. I am very happy with this product and I congratulate Artist Guitars on their customer service whether it be online or in store. Thank you Artist Guitars! One Happy Customer!

So, dare one speak of sound quality on €19,95 headphones ? At first I was disapointed... a lot ! Couldn't understand why all these guys were bragging about it on the bassguitar forum. I'll try to paint the picture: After playing around with an EQ, I mostly adjusted the 5k and up, by simple lowering them more and more the higher up I advanced in frequencies. Now this may be placebo, but I felt the presentation and sonical experience turned muddy and veiled. So I tried a second alternative, add cotton pads (those round, white soft pads used for facial-cleansing and make-up removal). I simply added one pad inside each cup, fitted them right through the opening without needing to open the cups up, using my finger to slide the pad under the velour pad edges. To explain my initial reaction: it felt right. The sound was just the way I liked it, similiar sound profile that I was used to from my 595's. The sibilance was gone and I still found the headphones sounding enjoyable. Now, as I said, it may be placebo or it may not be, so it should be up to everyone to try an EQ or cotton pads. The bass is still quite the same. To be honest, I don't recall exactly how it sounded without the cotton installed, but hey, these cost 28?. Some sacrifice is inevitable.

Build quality is sub-par but for this price it's decent. I definitely wouldn't throw these around but they will last quite awhile if you take half decent are of them. If you plan to do one of the many mods to them be VERY CAREFUL opening them up, the internal wires are very delicate. The two wires on the headband are made of metal and if you happen to bump them they will ring and you an hear the resonance in the headphones. This is fixable with a piece of foam. They also have a more friendly tonality, as the treble energy is greatly reduced. They actually sound rather dark, compared to the other Superluxes. It's not as etched in the bass and treble as the 681's are, so the overall sound is more balanced. The treble is still hot, but I find it more easy to live with and tone down. I bought a second pair of theses headdphones, so impressed was I by the sound quality of the inital pair, which was for my wife for use during her recovery from a serious illness. Im still not sure but probably I'll try the 681, btw how do they isolate? In case it would be too disruptive, I was thinking of going for 662? Which are basically the same but closed?

Tldr of the review is, best sounding cheap headphone money can buy, the hype is well justified. However if long wearing comfort and build quality is a priority then definitely spend a little extra. Kinda sharp, but actually, not that much. maybe the 2nd badge did just a bit improve this. i eq this down, 2kHz@-2dB, 4kHz@-1dB, 8kHz@-2or3dB. after tuned, gives out some detail but also wash out some detail as well... We may share your personal information with service providers utilised by us in the provision of the Services to: Superlux HD681 size and Superlux HD681 fit. Superlux HD681 Superlux HD681 Superlux HD681 Superlux HD681 Superlux HD681 I've had 3 pairs of these headphones, which is a testament to how good these sound and how badly their cable is designed. Because I really dislike the one with the red rings I bought the one with silver rings, not realizing that it has a different sound. But it looked cooler, that's a lot to be said here...

As far as filters are concerned, you don't need to dissemble the headphone. The filter can be built and used separately , as an interface between the headphone and the music source. For this kind of money, the HD681 evo is an absolute bargain if you like a bass led sound with good clarity and reasonable sensitivity for portables. It works exceedingly well with an amp and the bass is perhaps a tad more controlled. It usually has to do with the tonal balance of a headphone. For example a headphone with higher energy in the upper midrange and treble will generally be colder sounding.

Also my 681's are quite heavily modded and have a filter to reduce the treble energy to the degree I've found pleasing. Well, actually, after a bit more hours, i just realised, the mid part is just, well, "audiable". is just a bit more than enough but not in a way of satisfying mids. Well, is not the worst but feels not too comfy. The pad is the worst feeling ever. My ear gets sweaty and hot (maybe because im not used to wear PU pads). Most says to change to other pads that fits to the AKG K240, preferably velour one. so i think i will. (will DT880 pad fits?) For musics, so far all genre is good to go, and with amp and tuning equalizer the result will be more impressive. I'm just a normal home user who enjoy music but not in professional way so it is consider extra good for me except the wire is a bit too long for me (which i dont need too long). So i coil it and I think it is not a very big deal with it. In terms of portability, HD681 is not very suitable for mobility use as it looks too much adopted in studio monitor (the design is cool wearing in indoor) and big size. This also provided with a carrying pouch to protect the headphone. Though i would say that the pouch is like a cloth bag for carrying wet clothes. Bass: They are not bass-heavy headphones, but the bass is okay. It's not deep, more like a 80hz and up bassrespons. But it's compareable with the 7 times more expensive AKG. So don't expect punch in the basrespons, but it is very useable. The bass is kinda just a bit stronger than my preferred but can be tuned down just a bit. But for sure, entire bass frequency area is really amazing~ Is tight too~
