About this deal

Taking full advantage of the program can mean buying several extra books What is The Story of The World? READ: Read about some of the various Egyptian gods, then put together this egyptiangods“>mini book about some of the gods and goddesses. While perhaps not strictly necessary, parents interested in making full use of The Story of The World as a history curriculum would be best served by including at least some of its suggested readings.

Use alone, or combine with the curriculum guides and tests for a complete elementary history/literature/geography program. Most American families spend 1-2 years in the elementary years covering US History. Sadly, The Story of the World is…well, world history. As a result, we would probably consider the Story of the World more of a neutral curriculum rather than a purely secular or strongly faith-based one. How Easy is The Story of the World to Teach Some kids write beautifully in the first grade and can easily jot down 2-4 sentences. Other kids struggle writing their own names. And the same goes for older kids. After each chapter or even section has been read, students and parents can move on to the lessons in the volume’s accompanying activity book.Volume 2: The Middle Ages, which covers from the Fall of Rome to the Renaissance, is very much like the first volume but is written for an audience in grades two through five. In her delightful style, Bauer covers a huge amount of territory with selective highlights that actually provide good introductory coverage. She hits touchy territory when it comes to the Reformation although she tries to balance her presentation better than do most authors. However, I suspect some Catholics might want to skip or “edit” her chapter on Martin Luther. There are several types of timelines and you can use any of them with Story of the World; chose the one that best meets your needs and preferences: Wall timeline Through its four volumes, the series takes students on a journey from the ancient world to modern times and, combined with its accompanying activity books and recommended extra readings, is designed to serve as a full history curriculum. Story of the World Volume 1 (We do an average of one chapter per week, but if chapters are unusually short we may double up in one week, or if there is a lot of content to cover, we extend into multiple weeks.)

Story of the World does give parents some choice as to which encyclopedia to use, with each lesson in the activity book detailing where students can find the relevant readings in each book. I will tell you a secret: when you’re using Story of the World as your history curriculum, you don’t have to do history projects to be a good homeschool teacher! ONLINE VIDEOS: Crash Course has videos on world history topics and follows a really similar timeline to SOTW. Then I look at the quarters: my goal is to be around chapter 10 or 11 at the end of week 9. And I’d like to be around chapter 31 or 32 at the end of week 27. I hope that helps! I’m excited for you as you begin homeschooling — SOTW has been our very favourite resource over the years and I hope you love it! ReplyThe Story of the World books are chronological, starting with ancient history in volume one and finishing up with modern in volume 4. If she has a particular time period she is interested in, you could get that. I do think the volumes would stand alone but we love the whole series. Reply I love SOTW also, however I am always frustrated by the fact there are 42 chapters and we do a 36 week school year. I know, I know…I can just cut out some chapters or double up on others, but I feel like the material is so excellent I hate to do that. Also, I always feel like I’m missing something important, or guilty if we don’t complete them all. Does anyone else have this issue? What have you done about it? Are there certain chapters (esp for Vol 3) that you found were redundant and more easily skipped? Reply
