The Rise of Skywalker 4K disc showcases the vast amount of colours and shades as the story moves from the forest Rebel Base to the bright desert of Pasaana, the dark streets of Kijimi and the mysterious world of Exegol.

Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Complete Box Set - IGN

And this goes for all 4K discs – they will always offer higher quality than their streaming version even though they have the same 4K resolution. For Star Wars fans it is definitely worth your while to invest in the 4K discs because they offer far more video and audio quality that even 4K streaming versions of the films which are currently available on Disney+. Colours are rich, vivid and bold, and graded with perfection, lasers are a good shade of red, light sabres glow, flesh tones remain natural, while the greens of the Death Star lasers are punchy. Of course, we do have to contend with the recolouring given to the last Blu-ray, so while the purple of the sunset over Tatooine, with Luke looking into the distance as the music swells might be gorgeous, it is still the wrong colour …. The opening battle in Revenge of the Sith also looks pristine and makes all of your speakers work over time.Rey and Kylo Ren battling it out on the ruins of the Death Star beside monstrous seas is also a treat for the eyes and the ears. Deleted/Extended Scenes – Excised scene titled: Tosche Station, Old Woman on Tatooine, Aunt Beru's Blue Milk, The Search for R2-D2, Cantina Rough-Cut, Stormtrooper Search, Darth Vader Widens the Search, and Alternate Biggs and Luke Reunion. Secondly the bit rate (the number of bits to provide the video and audio quality) is much higher off a disc than a streaming service. Being the first in the trilogy, with the most direct and together storyline, The Fellowship of the Ring, is a near masterpiece with everything coming together to form a perfect whole; casting, score, effects, characterisation and editing, all making for a truly magnificent film that just gets better with time. And while there may be the same 4K resolution you don’t get the same depth of colour, the same brightness or the same sharpness around objects and finer details like hair and skin texture.

Conversations: Creating a Universe – 8 minute feature, new for this release, with Joe Johnston (from ILM) and Roger Christian (a Star Wars set dresser and a second unit director) who meet and discuss their time on the franchise at the Skywalker Ranch.

The ninth and final Star War film in the Skywalker saga – The Rise of Skywalker – has been released on 4K UHD but an equally exciting release on 4K disc is the original and prequel trilogies for the very first time. The Return of the Jedi forest speeder chase is a standout with a lot of detail revealed in the trees and darker areas of the screen on 4K and HDR.

Showcase scenes: The skiff chase in the Pasaana desert not only provides sharp visuals but fantastic directional audio that will use every speaker in your system or make your soundbar work overtime. High Dynamic Range (HDR) is also better off the disc so the clarity and contrast in the darker and lighter areas of the picture are even more detailed and defined. With excellent native 4K video with Dolby Vision, and solid accompanying Atmos, as well as a comprehensive selection of extra features as part of a lavish boxset, Total Recall 4K is an absolutely unmissable release of a stone cold sci-fi action classic, and an utter joy to revisit. David Lean’s undisputed king of the epics, Lawrence of Arabia, may be mostly fantasy in terms of its titular character and his actions, but the film is completely magnificent – running at 3 hours 48 minutes the length is a positive boon to the narrative; allowing scenes to unfold naturally, giving a true sense of scale to the picture. The whole is epic in every sense of the word; locations, sets, acting talent, design and story – we are unlikely to ever see its like again. What the 4K discs revealed were details we didn’t know were there even though we’ve watched them hundreds of times. Like the scratches and marks on R2D2 and C3P0, the detail of Darth Vader’s helmet that is only now being seen in all its glory and the natural skin tones of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. Showcase scenes: The opening shot of Star Wars with the large starship rumbling overhead never looked or sounded better.
