This is a beautiful story about two, beautiful broken boys and a girl who loves them both. Even myself fell in love with both! But I think the more especial part of the reading and experience this book was getting to see the wonderful and chaotic daily life of a very dedicated foster family. It was a great example of what a family can look like, and how it doesn’t have to be one made of blood. I just loved it – I was so invested. I actually spent 3/4s of the book thinking something had gone one way and when it was made clearer and I realised I was so wrong - man the tears! It just changed everything! A great but sad little twist. Thank you so so much to Paige Toon for sending me a copy of this one in exchange for an honest review! I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would as it’s not my usual genre. There are many layers to the plot which keeps things interesting & the detailed accounts of fostering (and alpaca farming!) do add depth. An interview with international bestselling author Paige Toon on her heartbreaking, romantic and utterly compelling new novel, IF YOU COULD GO ANYWHERE. I went through an emotional rollercoaster with these characters. There is so much love and heart in this book. I found myself utterly captivated by Someone I Used To Know, charmed by Leah’s busy household and generous hearted parents who offer sanctuary to children in need, warmed by the intense bond that develops between Leah, George and Theo, and heartbroken when the trio are separated. I delighted in alpaca’s with personality, giant fluffy bunny’s, and a wood planted with love and hope for the future.

The story focuses around Leah the daughter of parents who foster time after time. The main timings in the book are now and then with some in-between and a little after now. Unlike some books that jump a little this one flows well and adds to the mystery and depth of the story. Full of living-in-the-moment and what-might-have-been contrasts, this tender read pulls at the heart strings' FABULOUS I would have preferred less time taken up with the ‘then’ chapters (the teenage years) as at times it read very much like a YA book, with lots of detail about school which I feel too old for. Parts of the final chapters were quite cheesy too. However, I guess we can all cope with a helping of romance now & again & all in all it was an enjoyable summery read.A heartfelt, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of love, family and loss and the ties that bind us' DANI ATKINS Family and friendship is at its heart. The change between past and present means you truly understand the relationship between Theo, George and Leah. Everyone should have a family who loves you no matter what and everyone should have friends like these. I just fell in love with them all. I felt so connected to them. The ‘then’ story focuses around the care system which I found really interesting. Leah’s parents are probably the most selfless most heartwarming characters I have ever read about. Being foster parents they are honestly amazing, creating a safe environment for all children, even letting those that stay with them choose their very own tree to plant. Love it! I enjoyed reading about Leah, Theo and George growing together through the tough times and good. I really don't know where to start with this review, I mean I thought the book was fabulous, and I heartily recommend it to everyone but I can't quite get to grips with my thoughts past that.

But this really is a fabulous book, one I very much enjoyed reading every second of it and I really wish life hadn't got in my way of reading this in one sitting which is what I really really want to do with the book, as its so good and hooked me in so early on. With alternating chapters between the then and now we get to know Leah, Theo and George rather well. The Then chapters are while they are teenagers, having all grown up together. This book is much more than meets the eye. A pretty cover with so much depth. The stories main focus is around the care system how lives are affected positively and negatively by their upbringings. The research for this was eye opening. I hadn't fully understood the amazing job that foster parents and those that adopt go through. It broke my heart at times. An inspiring, unforgettable, incredibly special story. Highly recommend. A heartfelt, heart-breaking and heart-warming story of love, family and loss and the ties that bind us.”—Dani Atkins, author of Then and AlwaysI honestly don't even know how to get all my thoughts and feelings down into words to put together a 'proper' review ... there was just so many feelings and so many tears! This book was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. A heartfelt, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of love, family and loss and the ties that bind us’ DANI ATKINS
