About this deal

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. :) I love scary stuff and it's even better when the "monster" is something real. This could so easily happen too. This is probably the wrong decade to read it. I had a hard time connecting with the story and the mass hysteria. Im quite sure at the time it was written the reactions and panic could have been plausible. A lot have happened to the world in 40 years.

Kali is the son of a snake catcher, and that makes it hard for him to make friends in his village. However, being different has its perks, and when a rat snake appears in the classroom, it’s Kali who knows how to wrangle it. This is a book about bravery and how everyone’s talents, interests, and family make them beautifully unique. Verdi by Janell Cannon I had read The Taking of Pelham 123 and moved onto this. I preferred Pelham but Godey is very good at painting New York in an engrossing way. Not everyone fears snakes. Some love snakes, just like the main character Ali in The Girl Who Wore Snakes. This is a book for children who love and respect snakes and is also a great book for those who fear them. It’s a reassuring book that snakes are beautiful and deserve our respect just like any other animal. Kali and the Rat SnakebyZai Whitaker, illustrated by Srividya Natarajan

While venomous snakes get in the news because of their danger level, we think boas and pythons are awesome. That’s why we recommend Boas and Pythons of the World by Mark O’Shea.

We get to know the snake through its own POV - through its behaviour and biology. And it’s place in history (presented as research by one of our intrepid reporters). Let’s take a moment to admire this cover art. Louise le Blanc is a witch on the run who finds herself in a marriage of convenience with sworn witch hunterReid Diggory. Steamy romance! Action! The graying fields where what is thought to be right and wrong fades into mist! So for those of you who enjoyed the A Court of Thrones and Roses series, this one’s for you. Serpentine (Serpentine #1) by Cindy Pon All by themselves, snakes terrify people but add fangs and venom into the mix, and you’ve got a fearsome animal — the stuff of nightmares for some people. Yet, they’re mostly a misunderstood bunch. They’re not typically aggressive and would much rather avoid you than have a confrontation. None of the world’s snakes are out to get you, humans are not on their dietary menu, and a little knowledge goes a long way toward building respect for the “spicy noodles” of the world.

Most Comprehensive Book: Snakes of the United States and Canada by Carl H. Ernst and Evelyn M. Ernst If you’re not into snakes and just need to know that the one in front of you isn’t dangerous, a local guidebook is always the way to go. I wanted this little creep dead the minute I laid eyes on him -- just like his miserable little descendant, Dr. Fauci. The problem is Morton brought him in as a sort of hero. What I liked: John Godey is actually the pen name of Morton Freedgood. He passed away in 2006, but as Godey had a long career of writing and releasing mystery and thriller books. His most famous or well known release is perhaps ‘The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3,’ which was made into a movie in 1974 and remade in 2009, starring Denzel Washington and John Travolta. His chosen genre of mystery/thriller is on full display here with ‘The Snake.’The “life-size” description is a subjective term, depending on the age and subspecies of the snake. This comprehensive guide covers the states east of the Mississippi, from Wisconsin to Mississippi eastward to the Atlantic coast. This book includes beautiful photos of all known snake species in the region, maps showing their geographic range, and complete profiles of each species. Each profile includes all the information a non-biologist needs to correctly identify a snake.

Here’s a gorgeously illustrated book from the snake’s perspective. Verdi is a young python who loves his yellow skin. He does not want to grow up and turn green like all the pythons. To rebel against the change, Verdi tries everything he can think of, but doing so lands him in some trouble. This book is about accepting change while still remaining true to oneself.
