About this deal

As always there is a sense of urgency to stop them before one more dead body is found while still delivering good humor and an interesting resolution. Letty Davenport takes center stage in this welcome series spin-off. One of Sandford’s best books in years.”– Publishers Weekly After qualifying as a journalist, he started his career as an army reporter before joining The Miami Herald, where he eventually became an editor. Art history professor James Qatar's hobby was taking secret photographs of women. At night when he ...

Righteous Prey - John Sandford Righteous Prey - John Sandford

John Sandford’s Righteous Prey is due to be published by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in North America on October 4th, 2022. (At the time of writing, I couldn’t find any information about a UK edition, but previous novels by the author are published by Simon & Schuster, so I expect the same will be true for this one.)Lucas Davenport has seen many terrible murder scenes. This is one of the worst. In the small Minnesota town of Deephaven, an entire family has been killed -- husband, wife, two daughters, dogs. However there was one little glitch that irked this reader just a tad. I read to escape, to lose myself in another world created by great authors. What I don't need is for the author to climb up on a soapbox and espouse his/hers political beliefs. Even if its one I too believe in. I don't need it in the fiction I read. I get enough of it in the news. More and more authors are injecting their political leanings in their books and its very sad. Its not the correct form. And I know some might think saying its not the correct form to be my political belief.

Righteous Prey (Prey, book 32) by John Sandford

Righteous Prey by John Sandford, the pen name for the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Camp, is the thirty-second book in the Prey novels series featuring Lucas Davenport. Besides the Prey novels, Sandford is the author of the Kidd novels, the Virgil Flowers novels, and six other books. John Sandford created a winning formula with his furiously paced Prey novels, which star Lucas Davenport, a Minnesota detective turned U.S. marshal with a penchant for sharp dressing, high romancing and expert marksmanship. In T he Investigator he moves the chess pieces to a different board.”– New York Times Several oil companies in Texas have reported thefts of crude, Colles tells her. He isn’t so much concerned with the oil as he is with the money: who is selling the oil, and what are they doing with the profits? Rumor has it that a fairly ugly militia group—led by a woman known only as Lorelai—might be involved. Colles wants to know if the money is going to them, and if so, what they’re planning.

I think that John Sandford is tired of his characters, even Virgil Flowers, who has, until recently, been far more interesting than Davenport.

Righteous Prey by John Sandford | Goodreads

In 2006, John Sandofrod penned the popular short story Lucy Had a List, which tells the chilling tale of a grammar-obsessed golf teacher and her very important list. The first murder takes place in San Francisco. The Second in Houston. But when “The Five” strike for a third time in the Twin Cities, Davenport’s home town, they get his attention, and when he pulls Flowers in to help him investigate, our dynamic duo is off and running, trying to take down the vigilante group before murders take place. However, their hunt for these vigilante killers will not follow any kind of typical investigation and may likely cause them serious or deadly harm. When the third victim is killed in Minnetonka, Lucas and Virgil must find and stop "The Five" before more people die. Letty Davenport, the brilliant and tenacious adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes the investigative reins in the newest thriller from #1 bestselling author John Sandford. Was happy to have at least part of the book set in Minnesota. I wish Sandford would return to the Minnesota setting. That's one of the things that first drew me to the series and I miss that.

Lieutenant Davenport's sanity was nearly shattered by two murder investigations. Now he faces something worse... The book offers fascinating insights into the increasing popularity of elective cosmetic surgery. It also helps readers to understand the benefits and the risks of numerous popular procedures so that patients can make an informed choice. Some might just call this asshole-on-asshole violence and be content to let it roll for a while, but it’s a bad idea to just let the billionaires move to their next natural phase of killing people because they’re bored. They’ll get there soon enough. Beloved heroes Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers are up against a powerful vigilante group with an eye on vengeance in a stunning new novel from #1 New York Times-bestselling author John Sandford.

Writing a review of a book by an author such as Sandford is somewhat meaningless. He is a favorite and I have read everything he has written. We all have our favorite authors where we hunger for their next book. Sandford has been writing these books for over 30 years. This one has the same fast-paced story and interesting characters as in all the previous books. John Sandford is one of the world’s most acclaimed thriller writers. His bestselling novels have captivated readers around the globe for decades, and with two brand new books and plenty more to come, there’s no better time to explore this electrifying author’s work. It starts in San Francisco followed by Houston. Each victim has a number on their forehead. When a woman is murdered in the Twin Cities Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers enter the investigation. The killings are well planned, carefully choreographed and there is no apparent connection to the victims. Lucas and Virgil have their work cut out for them. With bodies dropping across the country followed by press releases from The Five bragging about what they’re doing, the inevitable media shitstorm has started. When the latest victim is killed in Minnesota, our favorite Sandford heroes, Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers, get called in to help the FBI, and the two cops end up following twisted trails across the US as they start running down The Five.

When one of these ‘righteous’ killings takes place in Davenport and Flowers jurisdiction they are brought in on the hunt to try and stop the madness. Readers are treated to Sandford’s well-crafted prose, conversational but never chatty and charged with boisterous humor.A top-line thriller from one of thegenre’s heavy hitters.” — Booklist I started reading John Sandford’s novels about 20 years ago. It is really quite something that he continues to write crime thrillers that not only grab one’s attention, but also never feel like they’re treading water or repeating themselves. The police work is always interesting to read, the “action” scenes are well-composed and not excessive (even if there is a rather intense, Heat-like shoot-out in this book). His characters continue to grow and be affected by what they experience with each new novel, which is one of the best things about the series. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Otherwise it was a great read, I especially love Lucas and Virgil’s relationship, and when they had to hold hands and pretend to be gay – well that just made my heart leap.💝 I’ve been a Sandford and Davenport fan since reading my first Prey novel ( Rules of Prey, 1989) and I’ve read every book in the series since. This one is unique in that Sandford billed it as a Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers novel, which I found disappointing. Not that I don’t love the Virgil Flowers character. I do and I’ve read every book in that series too. But disappointing because I assume we won’t be getting a new Virgil Flowers novel this year. That’s probably because Sandford is working on his second Letty Davenport (Lucan Davenport’s adopted daughter) novel. But that’s okay, too. I loved the first one and am eager to read the next one.
