About this deal

Beyond that, maintenance-wise, you just need to keep the dehumidifier clean. Unplug the machine on a regular basis and just run over it with a damp cloth, don’t use abrasive cleaners that could damage the plastic. However, this will depend on the quality of the build, with many being made from cheap components to keep the cost to the customer as low as possible. The only area I struggled was in emptying the water tank. This is positioned at the front of the dehumidifer, and –at least on the model I tested –it’s really stiff to pull out. I had to hook my fingers under the ridge and yank – a more difficult task than on most dehumidifiers I've tested.

When operating the Pro Breeze 12L Low Energy Dehumidifier, you can either leave it running continuously until you switch it off, or make the most of the built-in Automatic Humidity Sensor. This allows you to set your desired room humidity between 30%-80%, and once this level is reached the unit will turn off to conserve energy. It has a noise level of only 38dB and is Quiet Mark certified, an award given to the quietest products on the market. This low noise level allows you to keep it on all night, whether in the bedroom, in the office or while studying or reading.

The extra noise level, however, is partly the result of increased throughput, with compressor models on average able to extract 70 pints of water a day, while desiccant versions are capable of 15-20 pints and peltiers only 0.5-1.25 pints. Despite its compact size, it's also heavy. And whilst it does have a carry handle and castors, you’re not going to want to move it around too much. The most likely part to fail is the fan. However, in the peltier models at least, this is often a low powered type, the same as used in PCs, and can be replaced easily and cheaply.

A large 1.8L water tank ensures continuous moisture collection throughout the day, and a drainage hose is included for optional plumbing into a drain or container for long-term use. However, considering its weight, I found the handle felt quite flimsy. I didn't entirely trust it would support the weight of the dehumidifier if carried by this alone. It’s generally not recommended to dry laundry in rooms with a lot of soft furnishings (such as bedrooms) if at all possible. When the water tank is full, it’s inbuilt sensor will automatically turn off the device to stop any leaks or spillages ensuing from overfilling.

There is no actual drying function (although the appliance does an excellent job of drying clothes).Energy Efficient: Our energy-efficient dehumidifier has been designed to automatically shut off once it has reached your desired humidity level. I was less impressed by the unit's sleep function, as it meant I couldn’t adjust the fan speed, and although this dehumidifier is noisy in all modes (more on that below), it is even more so on a high fan setting.
