I was born in Subang Jaya, Selangor, but I grew up in Kulim, Kedah. I lived in Kulim with my grandparents for 17 years. After completing secondary school, I moved to Subang Jaya and I studied Cambridge A Level at Taylor's College Subang Jaya for 1.5 years. The PSA is undertaken by medical students in the early spring of their final year. It is an online exam that lasts for two hours and comprises 60 questions across eight-question formats. The total number of marks available is 200. Each medical school is allowed to choose whether or not they interpret the PSA as a summative assessment towards their medical degree. For F1s, the PSA certificate does not have an expiry date as such. A PSA pass within two years prior to starting the F1 year is valid, but the pass does not expire during the F1 year (e.g. if a trainee joins the foundation programme in August 2022 and passed the PSA in February 2021, the PSA certificate would not expire in February 2023 before their F1 year is complete). If trainees are required to record an expiry date in their e-portfolio it is suggested that the last date of the F1 year is entered. Another key way of familiarising yourself with the PSA exam and what will be assessed is to complete practice tests. Once you are registered for an exam date, you’ll be given access to three PSA practice papers to facilitate your preparation for the exam. These are a really useful starting point. To ensure that you are fully prepared, you should utilise these alongside further practice tests, to give you plenty of opportunities to practise answering the types of questions you’ll encounter within the given time. Remember time is a key factor in the PSA which is what makes it such a difficult exam. Therefore, practising completing the exam within the time limit is great preparation! The PSA is a very time-sensitive assessment and therefore time management is important. It is also considered best practice for all F2 stand-alone doctors to undertake and pass the PSA. Any F2 doctor who has not passed the PSA before starting work is encouraged to undertake the exam during their F2 year.
