The main shooting menu only has five options to it, for example.The maximum aperture of f3 is the same at the wide angle setting as the earlier L820 and closes to f5.9 (it was f5.8 on the L820 so barely any difference) when fully zoomed in. That’s pretty average though a little brighter at the wide angle end than the PowerShot SX400 IS with a 30x 24mm -720mm f3.4-5.8 zoom. So not much to choose between the two in terms of brightness, but the COOLPIX L830 goes both a little wider and a little closer than the SX400 IS.
as much as I would this feature, I can't find the "switch on the lens barrel that adjusts focal length". Could this be a mistake? or am I just missing it maybe (if so what does it look like) thanks! It is also equipped with features that make capturing high-quality images easy, including a 5x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers the range of focal lengths from the wide-angle 26 mm to 130 mm (equivalent in 35mm [135] format), a 3-inch TFT LCD monitor, and an HD movie recording function. The Nikon COOLPIX L830 is a budget bridge super-zoom. Its DSLR-styled body is light and compact – a step down in scale from the mid and higher end P-range super-zooms. Launched in January 2014, it supersedes the L820 extending the 30x optical zoom range of the earlier model to 34x but retaining the 16 Megapixel CMOS sensor. The new sensor brings with it an increased sensitivity range which now starts at a base 125 ISO and goes all the way up to 3200 ISO. Video is improved with a wider range of modes including 1080p30 Full HD, an improvement on the 720p best quality mode of the L810.At the other end of the range the 675mm telephoto gets you a little closer in than on the earlier COOLPIX L810, but not quite as close the 720mm of the PowerShot SX510 HS. That said, the difference isn’t massive and for most people it won’t be an issue – I’ve pictured their respective ranges below. The long zoom will need higher ISO to be used from time to time and the great news is that the L820 can handle it. Normally, we'd suggest alternative strategies to avoid raising the ISO, but it's ok here.
