About this deal

Outer sleeves: I started with KMC and was happy until about 2 years ago there quality dropped off and I switched to the Ultra Pro Eclipse Sleeves and have loved the change over. To evaluate seam strength, we grab each side of the sleeve and pull until either the plastic warps or the seams split. We can then determine the amount of force required to split the sleeve and compare it to other sleeves as reference.

Premium Protection for your TCGs | Ultimate Guard

In this review, we’ll go over the features of Ultimate Guard’s Katana sleeve lineup and analyze how they compare to other card sleeves.I have and always will recommend Dragon shields. They last forever, and the inner sleeves protect all 4 sides of your cards. You talked about how you don't like the space above the cards but I think that's the trade off for pretty much the best protection on the market.

Best sleeves to use? (Double Sleeving) — MTG Forum Best sleeves to use? (Double Sleeving) — MTG Forum

I have only double sleeved with matt dragon shield and matt KMC sleeves with their corresponding perfect fits. Serenity is the VP of Engagement for Null Signal Games, and wishes it was her full time job. Known by some as "Netrunner's Cool Goth Mom", she's a DJ in her spare-spare time and streams under the psuedonym SwearyPrincess! KMC may not be as durable/bombproof however I have the absolute confidence that my cards are properly sleeved and will definitely handle my kitchen table/FNM gameplay. V i m o z a h r do regular KMC sleeves have that extra space on the top? Because the way that I shuffle it gives me issues as well. I've heard a lot of people recommend the KMC inner sleeves but what are the regular outer sleeves they offer like? It sounds like with the extra space at the top on the dragon shields they may not be for me. Also does Katana make inner sleeves? I'm not familiar with that brand actually!I use KMC perfect fits for my internal sleeves and am quite happy with them now for I think like 4+ years. For sleeves with images , the images will begin to pull away from the sleeve, causing many sleeves to be unusable after that. Our one complaint about Ultimate Guard Katana sleeves would be the colors. While there are currently 10 to choose from, they aren’t exciting. In fact, each color is pretty basic compared to Dragon Shield’s lineup of colors. We hope that Ultimate Guard continues adding new colors and styles to the Katana lineup as it is arguably its biggest shortcoming right now. Just as with the stretch test, the Cortex Matte sleeves out shone the non-matte version. Even after 1000 rough shuffles these sleeves looked near untouched - slight bending on the corners and some minor scuffs but nothing beyond basic wear and tear. The serious players among you will be glad to hear that both Cortex variants are opaque. When held to a bright light, only the silhouette of the cards can be seen, none of the card details or any other incriminating information. We score this a brilliant 8/10, missing only a couple of marks for sleeves that do not even show the silhouette of the card inside.

Katana Sleeves Standard Size - Black (100) | Magic Madhouse

Worry not my fellow runners of the nets, there are indeed sleeves that are fully opaque and I will present some of those to you. The Katana Sleeves will protect your cards like a Samurai would! Honouring the tradition of pristine Japanese craftsmanship, these precision-made and extremely durable sleeves are ideal for tournament gameplay. They are fully opaque, great for shuffling and meet the highest standards of players and collectors. OFC Ultimate Guard makes his own Innersleeves. But i test many combinations, i think for Katana the best innersleeves are smoky or non smoky Perfect Fits from Dragonshild, The same couldn’t be said for the regular Cortex sleeves. While they were still tougher than average, they pale in comparison to their Matte counterparts. We rate the regular Cortex sleeves a strong 8/10, and the Cortex Matte sleeves an impregnable 10/10 for seam strength. When it comes to the way sleeves feel when shuffled, it can be a very subjective thing. We’ll do our best to describe the shuffle feel and give it a score based on our experience with all of the other sleeves we have tested. With this in mind, we believe there are 2 main types of outer sleeve when it comes to shuffle feel - buttery smooth and resistance free. However, you are getting what you pay for. Katanas are well worth the price given their quality and durability. If you have a few extra dollars to spend, these sleeves are the way to go. If you’re new to the game you might wonder why sleeves matter at all, why can’t you just use any brand and type? Quoting the NISEI Organized Play Policies (this had been the same during FFG days, by the way): I've basically always used Perfect Fits for my inner sleeves, and have never had an issue. Outer sleeves in general have more variety in my opinion. I appreciate the durability of Dragon Shield, but I know many who swear by the feel of Katanas. While both the matte and regular versions fall under the same Cortex umbrella, there are significant differences between the two in durability and ease of double-sleeving. That being said, both versions are fit for use and the deciding factor should always be the matte vs shiny finish of the display. I played five rounds the next day and the sleeves held up very well. No bends on the corners, still very smooth with little to no dirt buildup (partially because I used a clean playmat! I know a place you can buy the best playmats ever ! 😉)

Standard Gaming Sleeves: Ultimate Guard’s Katana Review Standard Gaming Sleeves: Ultimate Guard’s Katana Review

Not as tall as a Dragon Shield (the cut is similar to Ultra Pro Eclipse), so there's no issue of "baconing" on the top edge over time. A diverse community of players devoted to Magic: the Gathering, a trading card game ("TCG") produced by Wizards of the Coast and originally designed by Richard Garfield. they are extremely easy to insert into the katana sleeves. KCM is also nice, innersleeve but more for Dragonshild Sleeves.

Interestingly, the results for this test differed wildly between the Cortex and Cortex Matte sleeves. For the Matte version, it was incredible and quite possibly the toughest seams we have ever tested. Very few splits occurred and only after an unbelievable amount of force being exerted. Not only this, but there are 2 flavours of Cortex to sink your teeth into - Regular and Matte. Both Cortex versions are available in a standard card size (think Pokemon and Magic the Gathering) as well as a Japanese card game size (Yu-Gi-Oh). Still, the colors that are available are rich and vibrant. You’ll be happy to look at them as long as there is one you like. When I first started (many years ago now), I used a lot of Ultra Pro products, but I personally feel that the quality just isn't there any more.
