About this deal

Hellraisers is the story of drunken binges of near biblical proportions, parties and orgies, broken marriages, riots, and wanton sexual conquests. Indeed, acts so outrageous that if you or I had perpetrated them we could have ended up in jail. Their mercurial acting talent and love from the press and the public allowed them to get away with the kind of behaviour that today's film stars could scarcely dream of. They were truly the last of a breed, the last of the movie hellraisers. As the colorful anecdotes collected in this book make clear, some stars are born rather than made." Published in 1824, this is a ferocious, mordantly funny onslaught on extremist Scots Presbyterianism. The sanctimonious Robert Wringhim’s clergyman stepfather is tipped off by the Almighty that the lad is predestined to be one of the Elect. Because the “justified” must by definition have led lives unblemished by sin, then by Calvinist logic Robert, no matter what he does, cannot commit a sin. Now accompanied by a mysterious companion, who spurs him on, he decides to put this happy facility to use – resulting in gargantuan feats of debauchery, alongside the “cutting off” of religious rivals. There was an undercurrent of violence to his drinking, too. At his hellraising peak the gossip columns were filled with accounts of booze-fuelled antics: a brawl with paparazzi on the Via Veneto in Rome, a fistfight with a French count in a restaurant, his fleeing Italy on the eve of being arrested, even the beating up of a policeman. O’Toole’s social life often was in danger of eclipsing his talent. ‘I was silly and young and drunken and making a complete clown of myself. But I did quite enjoy the days when one went for a beer at one’s local in Paris and woke up in Corsica.’ Hellraiser is a British-American horror media franchise that consists of eleven films, as well as various comic books, and additional merchandise and media. Based on the novella The Hellbound Heart by English author Clive Barker, the franchise centers around the Cenobites which includes the primary antagonist named Pinhead. Hellraisers: The Life and Inebriated Times of Burton, Harris

Hellraisers wants only to be a rowdy collection of greatest hits, and it lives up to that fun-loving ambition." This is an odd book. It's basically a collection of anecdotes from the drinking lives of four amazing actors. The anecdotes pretty much follow one basic form: Person X got really drunk, did something stupid, doesn't remember it, doesn't regret it. There is a slight variation where Person X remembers it and regrets it, but this variation doesn't occur often. It's slightly different for each man - with Richard Harris and Oliver Reed there is a fight of some kind, with Richard Burton there is also Elizabeth Taylor (who drank as much or more than he did), and with Peter O'Toole there is always a bon mot. In the end the endless repetition of dumb activities reads like a great advertisement for a 12-step program - the pursuit of fun is all so desperate and boring and soulkilling. I'm a bit undecided as to whether or not this reaction is by design or not - the author is so absent and deadpan it's difficult to know what he might think.McNary, Dave (2019-05-06). " 'Hellraiser' Revival in the Works With 'Dark Knight' Writer David S. Goyer". Variety . Retrieved 2019-10-11. In April 2020, a television series adaptation of the franchise was announced to be in development. Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty will serve as the main writers, while David Gordon Green will serve as director on several of the episodes. The series will serve as "an elevated continuation and expansion" of the film series. Verheiden, Dougherty, and Green will serve as executive producers, alongside Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Brandon James, and Roy Lee. The project will be a joint-venture production between HBO, Rough House Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment. [3] Later in October, Clive Barker joined the series as an executive producer. [33] Prose works [ edit ] Follow-up works by Clive Barker [ edit ] This is a fun, easy read - tells each of the actors' stories in bite size chunks split into decades. All written in an irreverent, fun, matey tone, the book is great company.
