About this deal

If you or anyone you may know has been sexually assaulted/harassed this book and review post might be a trigger. So that's my warning. I'm officially blown away. Four Years Later completely gutted me. I read this entire story with knots in my stomach and tears in my eyes. I couldn't have predicted anything about this book, I was just left stunned. The writing was phenomenal. This new to me author truly just made a fan out of me with the writing in this book. But more, this story stole my breath away. I shake my head slightly and look away from him. I hate making him upset, but being at Southern U is my thing. It’s my thing away from him, and I kinda love it. I love living in Texas. It’s somewhere so completely different from the California town I grew up in; it’s new and exciting, and I’m not ready to give it up yet. I know people laughed when we said we were going to stay together through college while living in different states, but we’ve made it work; only now, Ryan’s starting to lose patience. Until you get your shi—your act together, you’re not working. You need to focus. On school more than anything,” Fable says. When I open my mouth to protest, she narrows her eyes. I shut the hell up. “They’re benching you on the team, too. You need to move fast before you lose everything. I mean it.” Emotional and gratifying . . . This romance was full of tension and longing! . . . Monica Murphy has another win with Four Years Later. Owen and Chelsea’s story was touching and passionate, and is sure to make you sigh in contentment by the end.” — Waves of Fiction

Initially, I was wary of how Doherty would take on issues of sexual assault because the first book was so much more different in tone than this one but I really liked Four Doors Down and, while I think it would have been better as a standalone, I was curious to see where the story would go. I've read various accounts of survivors of rape, but am not in a position to say whether this is a valid depiction of what a rape survivor goes through. I've read it in one sitting, I cried my eyes out, I was so captivated by this story - I can honestly say that this is my favourite book so far in 2017. I have no words, really. I’ve been a tutor since I was a freshman in college, and considering I graduated high school over a year early and I’m now a junior, that’s going on three years. I have a lot of experience. I’m not bragging when I say I’m smart. I’m what some people might call a prodigy.Monica Murphy has created an unforgettable series. Her writing is honest, gritty, romantic and entertaining. Her characters are very real people that readers can relate to. We embrace them in our hearts. Their lives and stories will stay with [us] long after the book is finished. It is no wonder that this series is an all-time favorite. . . . The One Week Girlfriend series has been an amazing reading journey that has touched my heart.” — Hesperia Loves Books

So I became a carbon copy of Drew Callahan. I played football, I wrote, I studied, I tried my best to do the right thing. I’m a little more outgoing than Drew, though. Girls are my thing. So are my friends. And beer. Oh, and weed. Yeah. That made me proud as shit. I idolize my brother-in-law. He makes me feel safe. He understands me when Fable never, ever could. Not that she doesn’t try the best she can, but she’s a girl. She doesn’t get it. Hero grovels but sadly he's mean before, sleeping around and the truth is revealed at around 86% when indisputable evidence is presented. Because let's face it... Ryan was really toxic in this book and Becca shouldn't have to put up with that no matter how much she loved him. This book does contain a first person account of sexual assault so if you have triggers then this is not the book for you.***For most of the story, I felt as one with Becca going through recovery. Her character development was so satisfying to me because we were going through the same thing. I loved seeing survivors making it through. I read this duet inside of 24 hours. Four Doors Down was cute, a lighthearted but angsty high school romance about former best friends turned enemies with unsolved feelings between them. The writing felt... new, like the author had a beautiful story to tell and was still finding her footing as she brought the characters to life. I liked it. I wasn't completely blown away by the story itself at the time but I certainly enjoyed it enough to read it in one sitting and immediately move on to this sequel. Once upon a time, I had all the hours in the world to write. Well, not really, but I could carve out enough time to get the words down. It was therapeutic. I copied Drew at first with it. The guy used to always scribble a bunch of nonsense that made my sister look like she wanted to faint, and I wanted to do the same. Not faint or make my sister faint, but touch people with my words. Spoilers for the end: That chapter where Ryan finds out the truth was written really, really well. The slow realization, the devastation he felt...omg. I don't think I'll be forgetting this for awhile.

All your grades have slipped tremendously, but you’re failing English Comp. That’s the class we need you to focus on at the moment,” Dolores the man-lady says. Until one terrible, unforgettable night away from Ryan. Until too much drinking and one empty bedroom. Until fifteen minutes of hell completely destroys her life and leaves Becca questioning everything she’s ever known. Until that night turns into a lie she can’t stop—can’t control. It had it's issues as well which I may make an entire review about in the future. For now let's bite into this sequel....Ngl, most of the side characters annoyed me. It was a bunch of high school drama and gossip that was just getting passed around for like half of the book. And it irked me when they kept trying so hard to get the MC to forgive the love interest, like they were completely erasing everything he did and said to her. Like please leave the poor girl alone and let her heal peacefully, she doesn’t need 15 people telling her she should forgive the guy who literally abandoned her. “He looks at you like he loves you” WHERE WAS THAT ENERGY THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BOOK 🤨🤨🤨 oh, but NOW you wanna act like she did nothing wrong when she’s been tryna tell you that the entire time. Ugh. I’m glad she didn’t forgive him (at first 😞), and she actually stood up for herself.
