About this deal

The DT 990 PRO is an open dynamic headphone of exceptional quality suitable for the most demanding professional and audiophile applications. The reduced weight of the diaphragm and moving coil result in a similar pulse characteristic as electrostatic headphones, and in combination with a carefully tailored frequency response offer a natural and balanced sound. Soft ear pads and adjustable, sliding, earpieces together with a very flexible coiled cable ensure listening comfort during extended periods of use. Here's What Beyerdynamic Say About the DT990 PRO Headphones Features Now that I'm wearing these headphones for 6-8 hours a day I do begin to notice the weight but it is not neccesarely disturbing. The low end was ok in most cases. It didn't have impact, weight or transient as DT770 but it is there. This is what I thought before I moved to the other music genres. There are fundamentally two differences between the models. Firstly, the Edition models have asofter headband for enjoying music at home whereas the PRO headset has a slightly firmer fit. Secondly, the Edition models come equipped with a straight cable whereas the PRO models come with a coiled cable.

In summary, the performance of the DT-990 Pro 250 ohm headphones are well balanced, if a bit bright and slightly scooped in the mid-range. The detail is certainly there in spades, and the design makes for an extremely comfortable ride, what’s not to like? For the money, we feel these represent excellent value for money but what would the listening experience be like if the frequency response of the DT 990 Pro headphones were calibrated? Sonic Performance CalibratedHowever, it is not too overpowering. The treble boost is powerful and sounds sharp. The mids are mild, and the low and high frequencies are clear. To be honest, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones sound better than some of the best surround sound headphones. Nevertheless, if you want more power, you can couple the headphones with one of the best headphone amplifiers on the market. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones have excellent sound quality. My first impression when I played some music was like: "My ears! It hurts!" because of the amount of high-frequency content. This was the reason to do the first test with high-frequency rich genres like Trance and Techno. Although they have advertised 250 Ohms impedance you average smartphone can drive them pretty well to painfully strong sound pressure level. The caveat however is that if you pair them with a simple amplifier you will unleash the beast <1KHz. I was pleasantly surprised when I first tried them on my phone, then thrilled on my audio interface Komplete 2, finally the HA4 "KOMPLETED" the circle of audio pleasure. I compared them directly to Custom One Pros, Marshall Major and K-701 all four driven from the same source - Komplete 2 + HA4. I equalised the volume to the best of my perception and the DT 990s wiped the the floor with the competition.

In conclusion, the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones are suitable for solo listening as they do not offer noise isolation, and non-competitive gaming. The headphones are also great for bass-heavy music. We do not recommend these headphones for travel or outdoor use. Connectivity The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro Headphones come with a 3.5 mm connector and 1/4″ adapter. Overall, the clamping force is neither too weak nor too strong. It’s just perfect and won’t give you a headache if you use the headphones for several hours at a stretch, especially when mixing, mastering or recording in the studio. The soundstage is wide and the instrumental separation is great. Therefore, Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro is good for gaming, studio recording, and casual use. In simpler words, if you want clear and beautifully transcending highs, and decent lows, you should definitely buy these headphones. Noise Isolation Several years ago we reviewed and tested Sonarworks Headphone Calibration Softwareusing a set of KRK 8400, which came from Sonarworks with an individual calibration profile. The Headphone Calibration component in Reference and Systemwide software works in a similar way to the main Speaker Calibration section. Both aim to provide flat frequency response in monitoring, but unlike speakers, the user doesn’t have the means to measure the response of headphones. However, the good news is that Sonarworks offer several solutions to this:Their sound quality is excellent. The 80 Ohms version is suitable for all studio applications and the 250 Ohms version is suitable for professional studio mixing and recording. As with all beyerdynamic professional studio headphones, the DT 990 PRO headphones are handcrafted in Germany. The materials and component parts used are made by hand and can be replaced if necessary. Specifications Outstanding tonal depth ensures that even small changes in the positioning of the acoustic source can be perceived while mixing. Incredible Spaciousness Some people may enjoy genres like Jazz, RnB etc. on those because of the wide stereo space. As long as it doesn't have exaggerated cymbals, you may be fine. If you prefer deeper, more towards mid and bass range sound, avoid DT990 at all costs.
