About this deal

I have to say though, I can see why the girls love this series. It's well written, funny and full of clever little asides about family and school and relationships. Personally, I found the Ruby Redfort interludes like a less realistic Alex Rider, but I'm not nine years old. The writing made me smile several times and actively giggle once so I would imagine the girls would be in fits of giggles. And I said, “Oh you think these are carrots. These are not carrots. They are orange twiglets from Jupiter.”

on television we have to be careful to show that Lola is eating bits of dried banana, instead of salt and vinegar crisps, because the BBC have strict guidelines on children and eating. I don’t think people need to be so worried, to be honest […] Children aren’t stupid.' Last month, Child launched a manifesto about her belief that the lesser consideration of work created for children is to undervalue what it means to be a child. All Arthur wants is a completely normal family, so he decides to run away to find one. But on his doorstep, he meets a polar bear called Mister P. With nods to Mary Poppins and Paddington Bear, this book will win the hearts of every reader. Readers see Clarice’s world through her eyes. “When she describes her father’s office, she sees the glamour, and if that’s true, then he has a really important job. But I don’t think he does, because they live in a very average London house. It’s not very big. I imagine that they inherited it from her grandfather and they moved in with him to look after him. They are living a very ordinary life.” Clarice’s home in Clarice Bean: Think Like an Elf by Lauren Child Lauren Child cites her artistic inspirations as E.H. Shepherd, Quentin Blake, Carl Larssen (the Swedish illustrator) and Ludwig Bemelman’s Madeleine books. The writing does such a good job of letting us see things from Clarice Bean's perspective, and it really captures her childish voice.

I used to love this book when I was a kid. I remember my mother gave it to me and that it was the first big book I'd ever read! I was really excited! This book it's cute and funny. It's rare to find a children's book as funny as this one. Also, I reread it when I was in High School because I found it in my school's library. Does any one else thinks her favourite author looks like Clarice Lispector? Maybe that's why her name is Clarice, I don't know... It's just a thought. Christmas is approaching, and Clarice Bean is very excited. However, this year, Mum and Dad have decided that it’s just going to be the seven of them and not a huge family gathering, which Clarice feels is a little disappointing.Nineteen people is her number for a perfect Christmas – even if that means peeling over 100 potatoes.

The stories explore the way in which Charlie and Lola use their imaginations and creativity to deal with these everyday dilemmas, and their sibling relationship is founded on the way they help each other to do this. Thus, the absence of adult presence enables Child to highlight this element of their relationship. In I Will Not Ever, Never Eat A Tomato, Charlie use his imagination to persuade Lola to eat her vegetables: In Child’s series, the focus is completely on the endearing sibling relationship between seven-year-old Charlie and his sister Lola, who is nearly five. As Charlie tells us:

What Planet Are You From, Clarice Bean?, Nestlé Smarties Book Prize, Kids' Club Network Special AwardBoth " Clarice Bean,That's Me" and "What Planet Are You From, Clarice Bean?" were bronze medal winners of the Smarties Prize, in the 6–8 years category, in 1999, and in 2001, respectively. The latter won the Kids Club category.
