About this deal

Inside 'Breaking Bad' – Making of Episode 505: 'Dead Freight' (1080i, 4:23, Disc 2) – As expected, dive a little deeper into making of the intense train sequence. It’s only been a couple of months since the final episode of Breaking Bad aired, but Sony have already released Breaking Bad: The Complete Series on Blu-ray. And who can blame them? This is a show that gained momentum in a huge way the last couple of years it was on air, multiplying its viewership to an incredible degree for the final eight episodes. Fans will want to revisit these episodes, while also sharing them with friends and family who have yet to see the incredible story of Walter White. Episode 401 ('Box Cutter') Commentary - Unlike the previous seasons, the Blu-ray set for 'Season Four' contains a commentary for each of the 13 episodes. As always, these commentaries are hilarious, informative and fun. Some contain mostly on-screen talent, some are tech-heavy. No matter which, these commentaries are always worthwhile. Instead of writing something along these lines for all 13 commentaries, from here out I will simply include the talent featured in each commentary. "Box Cutter" features Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston, Giancarlo Esposito, Melissa Bernstein, Skip Macdonald and Diane Mercer. Walt and the Challenger Storyboard Comparison – A side-by-side comparison of the sequence where Walt indulges in some crazy stunt driving in Walt Jr.’s Dodge Challenger and the storyboards that were created. For the sake of removing confusion, allow me to classify the special features into two categories: there are those that are found within the "Special Features" section of the menu, and there are those that are found attached to each episode in the "Episodes" section of the menu. Don't be confused by the "Inside 'Breaking Bad'" special feature because different episodes of it are placed in different sections of the menu. For the sake of ease, the following list of special features will begin with those found in the "Special Features" sub-menu, after which I'll dive into the episode-specific extras. Stay with me, for there are over nine hours of solid features here - hence the five-star rating.

The entire season poses one question to the audience, the same question that Walt and Jesse are asking themselves: how in the hell is this going to end well for either of them? The only reason they're still alive is because they are indispensable to Gus' business – or are they? Walter White is an exceptionally smart man. We've learned that throughout the series. But functioning on the same level of genius is Gus. Walt is to chemistry as Gus is to business. There's no doubt that Gus wants Walt and Jesse dead, but Gus also knows without a doubt that Walt wants him dead too. Kill or be killed. 'Season Four' is all about their playful game of who is going to kill whom first – only it unfolds like an intricate game of chess where the loyalties of the pieces are blurred. Episode 403 ('Open House') Commentary - With Betsy Brandt, Melissa Bernstein, Sam Catlin, Thomas Golubic and David Slade. A Criminal Attorney: Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman –A look at the character Saul Goodman and the man who played him, Bob Odenkirk. Here’s more good news: Random Space Media’s box set includes essentially the same special features as the previous Sony Blu-rays. Here’s a look at what you get, broken down disc by disc… SEASON ONE – DISC ONE Gag Reel (SD, 5 min.) - Let the F-bombs fly! This typical gag reel features a few more laughs than most, but it's still nothing hilarious.

Episode 411 Deleted Scene (SD, 1 min.) - Less than a minute long, this clip belongs in the final cut. It shows Jesse's reaction to seeing Gus visit "Tio." Commentary with Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston, RJ Mitte, Michael Slovis and Dennis Milliken - As always, these commentaries are fun, informative and absolutely entertaining. You may hope that this commentary reveals some insider details regarding the season's teasing intro, but they don't reveal a thing. To avoid repetition, I will only list notable aspects of the subsequent commentaries. Commentary with Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Melissa Bernstein - At the time this commentary was recorded, writer/director Peter Gould was busy shooting upcoming episode 515, which is why he's not present in it. Random Space Media’s box set includes all 62 episodes of the series (and the feature film) in 1080p HD in their original aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Image quality is generally very solid, with accurate color and solid contrast overall. Breaking Bad was shot on 35 mm film from start to finish (in Super 35 format), so the source is of fine quality. The first season has a slight digitally-processed look to it though, with a bit of unevenness to the color and detail, possibly due to limitations in HD scanning technology when the show was first finished in 2008. It’s not bad in any way, just perhaps a little dated looking. Subsequent seasons get much better, however, and by the end the production values are excellent.

Gag Reel (HD, 3:17, Disc 1) – Watch the cast of the extremely dark series keeping the on-set mood light and fun in this typical gag reel. Episode 403 Extended and Alternate Scene (SD, 2 min.) - I truly wish this extended scene of Aaron Paul go-karting would have made the final cut. It's a masterfully filmed, powerful gem. I'll refrain from spoiling what makes it so great. Watch the episode, then watch this single deleted scene. You'll love it.

Episode 410 Extended and Alternate Scene (SD, 5 min.) - Watch the full scene of Saul informing Ted about his great aunt's death. Nothing Stops This Train (HD, 15:38, Disc 2) – For me, there's one episode in each season that stands out above the others. In season three, it was the parking lot shootout between Hank and The Cousins. In season four, it was Gus' finale. For season five, it's episode 505, which turns out was a logistical nightmare due to the desert conditions, the train – parked or moving – and technical difficulties. This featurette covers it all. The shoot. The problems. The stunts. The special effects. Commentary with Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte, Rian Johnson and Sam Catlin - Director Rian Johnson was unable to make the commentary for his season three episode 'Fly' because he was off shooting 'Looper,' but he was able to make this commentary and adds great insight.
