About this deal

The story of what would happen to our ecosystem if one key species disappeared with tips on how children can protect our natural resources. The BEEBOOK project is at present divided into three volumes: The COLOSS BEEBOOK, Volume I: Standard methods for Apis mellifera research; The COLOSS BEEBOOK, Volume II: Standard methods for Apis mellifera pest and pathogen research; and The COLOSS BEEBOOK, Volume III: Standard methods for Apis mellifera product research. Volumes I and II were published in 2013, the first chapters of volume III were published in 2016, and its final chapters will be published in 2021. Wow what a fantastic fun informative book... This book is a super fun, colourful way to learn all about the wonderful honey bees and what an important part they play in life" Toppsta The ‘Dummies’ range of books are perhaps the most well-known in the world for introducing all manner of topics to complete beginners.

Bees have 300 degree vision and their eyes process information faster than any human's. All of their nutrition comes from flowers and each individual flower provides only a tiny meal so bees have to travel great distances to obtain all the nutrition that they need. They are competing with many other insects for this nutrition.

Whether you’re new to beekeeping or just have a fascination with the world of bees, there are plenty of books on beekeeping available to help you learn. een meer technisch boek dan ik had verwacht over de capaciteiten van bijen aangaande intelligentie, geheugen, oriëntatie, enz. , het boek is leuk verhalend gebracht en blijft door de verschillende hoofdstukken boeiend , het gaat wel wat minder over bewustzijn dan ik had verwacht , ... ik zou niet echt inzien waarom bewustzijn zou worden beperkt tot melk organismen , melk is een voedzaam product , hoe het precies aangemaakt wordt weet ik niet maar ik zou niet direct denken dat er melk nodig is om bewustzijn te creëren , hoe dan wel weet ik niet ik zou het eerder wat zoeken in het elektromagnetische, dat positief/negatief geladen gedoe , Bees also have their own dance language which they use to represent distance, direction, and duration, to tell hive members where to go to find flower patches. Marvel at the industry and intelligence of bees, the turbulent life of a queen and the remarkable properties of honey.

A nicely presented book for older children. It gives an account of some of the problems facing honey bees, especially in the US. recommended by Karin Alton Darwin played piano to earthworms and bees; both audiences were reported as “largely unimpressed” - though history does not note whether Darwin was any good. This remarkable book eloquently explains how to be a better partner with honey bees, using nature as a guide. Seeley draws on insight and wisdom gleaned from a lifetime of research and hard work—and provides plenty of instructions and illustrations. The Lives of Bees is for everyone who has, or wants to have, honey bees in their lives."—Kim Flottum, editor of Bee Culture magazine Having already read Honeybee Democracy, which is referenced quite often in this book, and The Lives of Bees: The Untold Story of the Honey Bee in the Wild, I had a solid base before starting this one, but I think reading this book first would have been better. It's broader in its scope, so if you haven't read Seeley's yet, you may want to start here instead. Definitely read Honeybee Democracy afterwards, though, since it details the waggle dance and the social structure of bees, and it's fascinating. Also referenced assiduously is Karl von Frisch, who was a giant in this field of study. I have yet to read any of his books because I think they're even more technical than Seeley's, but Animal Architecture is calling my name. If you’re a complete beginner, you may find highly illustrated books help to explain the more complicated matters of beekeeping much more easily.Ted Benton is the author of several books about bumblebees, which has led to him being jokily labelled a "bombologist". He is also Professor of Sociology at the University of Essex, and points out that bees like humans, live in colonies, with a highly developed division of labour and cooperation. Eric Grissell was a co-founder of the International Society of Hymenopterists. A member of the Garden Writers' Association, he has written two books of essays on gardening as well as his insightful Insects and Gardens.

They can be taught to solve complex problems, and their minds are incredibly powerful thinking machines. Currently, we can't even design a robot that behaves as efficiently as a bee. If you do decide to go the extra step and try and turn it into a profitable business, you’ll need plenty of hard work and determination. A review of the biology of pollination and pollination requirements, and how to conserve bees for optimum pollination. recommended by Karin Alton Researchers can follow the wandering of individual bees by attaching a 15 mg transponder. Unclear whether the bees can get a wifi signal. An interesting read by an eminent honey bee scientist on the workings of a honey bee colony." – recommended by Karin AltonThis is an excellent book, and one I would recommend to all beekeepers, not to mention anyone with a fascination for this amazing little insect."—Amanda Williams, Buzz About Bees

Bees also have a culture that can be passed down from generation to generation. However, in colder climates, it seems that cultural evolution stops in the winter because of hibernation. A Most of all, it gives a really broad understanding to the reader of what is required to keep bees. This makes it ideal for those just starting out and even those just interested in the hobby. Dave Goulson is a specialist in bumblebee ecology and conservation based at The University of Sussex. He is a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society. In 2006 he founded the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, a charity devoted to reversing bumblebee decline. Meet the humble honeybee face-to-face - an animal that is considered nature's hardest worker, in this engaging, educational kids book that you can treasure forever. As well as the online version, the BEEBOOK is also available as a hard copy version, for use at the laboratory bench. Sure, it may be a nice added bonus, but the main reason for becoming a beekeeper should be for the love of the bees. First off - there were very few photos of insects in this book. Insects are cool, but seeing them up close (esp. with extreme magnification of compound eyes) gives me the heebies. Third - friendly reminder that governments that ban books, limit their scientists, and discriminate for religion, gender, race, or ideology are not good governments. I was talking about Nazis, who did you think I was discussing?
