About this deal

Seemingly as part of an effort to reduce manufacturing costs and maximize profit, Celestron is putting spherical primary mirrors in at least some of its AstroMaster 130EQ units. These mirrors cannot focus light correctly (a proper Newtonian telescope uses a parabolic mirror), and they make the telescope nearly unusable at high magnifications.

Read on for my full review. Celestron Astromaster 130EQ review What are you buying? 1. Beginner 130mm reflector telescope This image of Venus contains the faintest star I have recorded at 12.25 whats more its in the glare of Venus. So, for such a cheap telescope to have steel legs is a big advantage. The only complaint I have is that the needle on the scale of the latitude is far away, and hard to see where it is pointing, but it is no big deal anyway. OTA or optical tube assembly is the main telescope tube, made of metal with some plastic elements on both ends and preassembled mounting rings with a dovetail bar.

Also, I would suggest using a passive-tool, like a Cheshire and/or a collimation-cap, to collimate. I use both, and for the telescope that houses that mirror within my image... The Sky-Watcher 6” Traditional provides similar capabilities to the SkyLine 6 but with a true 2” focuser, allowing for the use of 2” eyepieces. In this review, we’ll make it simple for you to closely examine the features and performance of the Celestron Astromaster 130 EQ telescope and see what makes it such a popular choice among stargazers.

Additionally, some users have reported that the mount itself can be wobbly or unstable, which further complicates matters. I believe the telescope is made to work with little t mount eyepiece lenses that are between 9mm and 20mm though Im sure that is expandable. However, since the t mount adapter has no magnification, I am wondering if that is an issue, and would solve something? Any idea what kind of piece I could get? Thanks everyone. I'm not desperate to go down the AP route yet, and if it will involve a lot of investment to use my DSLR, then that side of it probably isn't for me.
