About this deal

The First Drawings by Mordicai Gerstein (Y3 planning sequence in the Literary Curriculum) would be an ideal text to teach this alongside.

Příběh malého chlapce Artura (prvního v dlouhé linii Brownstonů), který se vydal zachránit své islandské městečsko poté, co bájný vlk Fenrir uhasil velký oheň. Doputuje až do Åsgardu, kde požádá Thora o pomoc. Ten rád pomůže, má to ale háček - ono v titulu zmíněné zlaté lano... An unlikely hero rescues his Icelandic village in this picture-book retelling of “The Binding of Fenrir.”In this activity your KS2 class must read through the passage from the book Arthur and the Golden Rope and identify the verbs in the text and write the present/past tense of the words.

In this activity, your class will read the sentences/passages and identify the missing punctuation. Frey was the god of fertility and birth. When Vikings married, they would ask Frey to bless them with many children. Frey’s sister Freyja was the goddess of fertility and love. I used this book as a hook for my year 5 class to get them excited about mythological beasts with the eventual aim to have them write a non-chronological report about one. This resource helps your class identify the difference between suing apostrophes for contractions or possessions.

In this first idea, we look at exploring the front cover of the book to make predictions and connections. Táto kniha rozpráva príbeh o prvom členovi tejto odvážnej rodiny, o islandskom chlapcovi menom Artúr, o jeho udatnosti a hrdinských činoch. I loved the illustrations, the detail and the way they convey feeling was totally absorbing. Yet again, this wasn't really the kind of thing I would normally read but, once again, I am so glad I did! knihu Artur a zlaté lano je veľký zážitok. Už obálka so zlatými písmenami a jemným pogumovaním, šité viazanie a vôňa ulahodí každému správnemu knihomoľovi. A fantastic version of a Norse myth that falls between a picture book for older readers and a graphic novel, this is a promising start to an attractive adventure series that should appeal to boys and girls.

In this idea, pupils explore the different thoughts Arthur may have as he contemplates what he should do. This book is fantastic! […] Arthur is just too cute and for any unpopular kids out there, this book will encourage them to embrace their uniqueness because as unlikely as Arthur is, he’s the town’s hero!Arthur is the oddball in his village. He likes to hear old legends from the town crazy lady and cobble together costumes to dress up like his favorite heroes. Everyone thinks he's a weakling with no real strengths but when the great fire in his village is stamped out by Fenrir, Loki's evil giant dog, and the whole town is about to freeze forever it will take Arthur's knowledge of ancient Norse mythology to save the day! Arthur, a small boy fascinated by the magical tales of the town's wise woman, is out exploring one day when he's startled by a terrible howl. Too late, he watches as a huge wolf, Fenrir, puts out the village's great fire, meaning that the village faces being frozen solid in a week - unless a Viking god relights the fire. This book also teaches children no matter how small you are, you can still make a difference in the world. Great for Growth Mindset, mythical adventures, vikings, and recount. The illustrations in this book are really fun and help tell the story really well. People who like stories about the Norse gods will like this book. I hope that there will be other books like this!

From the cover... Imagine a vault so cavernous that it could contain all the world's greatest treasures and relics, from mummified remains of ancient monarchs to glistening swords brandished by legendary warriors. How could someone come into possession of such a collection. Who is Professor Brownstone? In this idea, pupils take some of the assumptions of the townsfolk and think about how stereotypes affect them.

In this idea, pupils can apply their understanding of prepositional phrases by exploring a picture from the book. Príbeh o Artúrovi, ktorý napriek svojmu veku dokázal preľstiť a poraziť veľkého, nebezpečného Fenrira, pri lapení ktorého zlyhali samotní bohovia, by nemal chýbať v žiadnej knižnici.
