It comes in multiple vibrant colors and features a woven yarn surface on top and matte plastic below. Unfortunately, it only provided 4,189mAh of its expected 10,000mAh capacity. This is 42% of the expected value, compared with the 61% the Anker PowerCore 13,000 was able to achieve. Despite its aesthetic beauty and quality build, this battery dropped the ball on capacity.

Some of our readers may know already that the Anker PowerCore 10000 has been one of our most highly recommended portable chargers and also took the runner-up spot in our list of best power banks in 2019. A recent upgrade of this beloved unit has since been released by Anker, called the Anker PowerCore 13000 Portable Charger. Let’s take a look at it in this review. Design & Portability Functional components are in the same general area. The 2 USB Output ports and Micro-USB Input ports are on a side panel. The power button is on the long side of the power bank and there are 4 LED power capacity indicators on top of the charger.The charger’s matte plastic design feels nice to the touch and resists smudging surprisingly well. It’s about the size of a full wallet, so it’s easy to carry around. And it’s durable: The charger survived our drop tests, which included a 3-foot drop onto grass and a 1.5-foot drop onto carpet, with neither external nor internal damage. (You can read more about our durability testing below.) The PowerCore 13,000 functions the same as other power banks from Anker and many other portable chargers on the market. This means that charging automatically begins when a device is connected to the charger and charging turns off if there aren’t devices connected to the power bank. It’s a surprisingly small power bank and for a 13,000mAh 2 port charger, we welcome its small size. This isn’t to say that portable chargers with just a single port aren’t able to give a great charging experience. It’s just that when a charger has 2 charging ports, it means that it’s ready to offer more to the user.This is where the powering capabilitiesof this power bank are kind of weak. There are 2 Output charging ports on this charger, so that’s good. Both of the ports can send a Max Output of 5V/3.0A but at the same time, the Max Output of the entire power bank is 3.0A. of Output power capacity is still a lot of power that can charge smartphones about 4 times or more. As for tablets, you can very well expect some tablets to charge to their full capacities but only if you’re using the entire capacity. Meets Estimation: This is where we measured how much each battery could actually provide in mAhs. To do so, we charged a variety of devices with each battery, recording how much battery life (aka what percentage) each device gained. When a device was at about 95%, but the battery was not empty, we immediately swapped it for a different device. Once a battery was empty, we calculated how many mAhs it provided in total across all the devices it charged and then divided the promised total by the recorded value. This allowed us to figure out what percentage of its promised total each battery provided. We used a 0.3M Nomad Universal Cable, plugged into a battery’s USB-A port (fast charging if available), to charge each device. The device pool we chose from for charging was: iPhone 11, iPhone 8, Fire HD 10 tablet, Nintendo Switch and Bose QuietComfort 35 II.
