About this deal

X-TERRA PRO by Minelab dominates at the beach and a dedicated Beach Mode handles the most difficult saltwater conditions. The beach is regarded as one of the most difficult terrains for metal detecting, due to the saline nature of the environment, but the X-Terra Pro is optimised for this challenge. LIGHTING &VIBRATION Minelab has also made sure that the X-terra Pro is a rugged and durable machine, capable of withstanding the rigors of even the most demanding treasure hunts. The detector is built to withstand harsh weather conditions, and is both water-proof and dust-proof, making it suitable for use in a wide range of environments. The Minelab XTerra Pro trumps the Simplex in this department as it has the ability to switch between a choice of three frequencies. These are 5KHz, 10KHz and 15KHz. It is difficult to see where an “X-Terra Pro” fits into the current Minelab lineup. If the price is right though it could see of the Nokta Makro Simplex, Quest Q30 & Q60 and most certainly a whole slew of Garrett machines including the AT Pro and AT Max.

We’re not going to spend a huge amount of time comparing the three Vanquish detectors and the new range of Simplex now (more on that in another blog) but instead want to see how the new X-TERRA PRO will change the marketplace for those looking to buy their first machine, or those looking for a specific detecting experience. Honestly, I never touched the Iron Bias on the Equinox, I’ve used the X-Terra Pro in heavy iron that did way better than most programs on my Deus II, and it was stunning.

This multi-frequency detector lets you fine-tune your searches by selecting the frequency best for the type of metal/ treasure you are hunting for. The ability to change frequencies also helps you filter out trash. My take is that XTerra Pro and Vanquish are missing features that would benefit the other. I know I'm considered a detector snob, or whatever, but I consider the omissions as flaws, despite the great features both detectors bring to the table. And, yes, I know that when you add these features, you start moving the detectors to the Equinox low end, which obviates ML's intended hook and upsell strategy. But to me the omitted features just seem like random omissions, at least in the case of Vanquish and ground balance, that are almost essential features, done just to justify lower price points. But even without Multi-IQ, the Xterra appears to be the most well rounded value of the two and if I was given the choice to use either detector, it would probably be Xterra as it has most of the features of my preferred detector (Deus) before the Nox came along. This is an even more relevent question when true multi frequency machines can be had relatively cheaply now for an entry level model like the Minelab Vanquish 340.

Since you already own and love the XP Deus II, Minelab Equinox 800, and the Nokta Gold Kruzer, and all of the new metal detectors on the market that are affordable, why did you decide to get a Minelab X-Terra Pro? One big question which baffled the detecting community was why Minelab decided to launch a switchable single frequency machine in 2023? AUDIO CONTROL – With multiple-tone audio options, the sound of treasure has never been clearer — X-TERRA PRO’s advanced audio means you’ll not only ‘hear’ if a target is a trash or treasure but you’ll also be able to gauge its size and depth simply by listening. X-TERRA PRO by Minelab is a completely new detector designed from the ground up. It leverages the robust compact form factor of the new EQUINOX series as well as the rich history of the X-TERRA 305/505/705 switchable frequency detectors. X-TERRA PRO introduces the innovative new PRO-SWITCH technology. While the X-TERRA PRO has; All metal, Field 1 and 2, Beach 1 and 2, Park 1 and Park 2. So slightly more pre-set options on the X-TERRA PRO.

Features

but also a great specialised option to add to a detectorists tool-kit for those who want a modern, fun beach detector. If that's the case then the 600 model (well, maybe I should say 700 model since things like 100 VDI scale have been included on the 700 and Pro) is everything the X-Terra Pro is, but more (because of the multifrequency option). How much price discount should the X-Terra Pro have over the Eqx 700? (AFAIK, at present all we have on X-T Pro pricing comes from the rumor mill.)

As technology advanced, metal detector manufacturers began to release machines that had the ability to switch operating frequencies via a button on the control box rather than having to change a coil.Because of this, if I need SMF/Multi-IQ (a lot of wet salt beach detecting) and was forced to go only with ML, I would probably just skip Vanquish and go with the Nox 700. Otherwise, if I didn't need SMF, it appears that XTerra would make a versatile selectable single frequency detector that might outgun the Deus 1 if the price is set at a realistic level. If I was allowed to choose any brand, Nokta Legend appears to be the best value around and combines the best of both these detectors at about the same price point.

In 2019 both Noktaand Minelabreleased new detectors for this market of detectorist and became heavy competition for the pre-existing Garrett Ace series. Garrett’s Ace detectorshad dominated in this area for quite some time, but the new technology and features within the Simplex and Vanquish machines generally replaced Garrett machines as choice in this price range for many people. With the beaches and rivers being one of the key terrains for these machines waterproofmay be of more importance than we normally stress. At Crawfords Metal Detectors we sell a variety of detectors ranging from machines which only have a waterproof coil such as the Go Findand the high performance Vanquish range, to detectors specifically created for underwater detecting, such as the Excalibur II. Detectors like the Excalibur II are pressurised, and ideal for diving, and extreme underwater conditions (depth of 66 metres – 200ft). However, in the UK we find that due to our disappointing climate (let’s be honest, we do love the rain) and fairly cloudy waters that not many detectorists stray more than a few metres into the surf.Driven by the enhanced PRO-SWITCH™ engine, X-TERRA PRO by Minelab gives you the power to switch frequencies. Detect targets deep anywhere, in any conditions — there’s deep and then there’s Minelab deep. Factory Items (included):
