About this deal

It has an automatic off function, so it will stop grinding when the hopper is empty. This is my favourite feature because I can start grinding and go about the rest of my coffee prep without thinking about it. You might struggle a bit more to accommodate its height. While it has a relatively small footprint, measuring just 7.6″ in diameter, it is towering 15.6″ tall. It fits under upper cupboards but doesn’t leave much room to spare to get the lid on and off and add beans to the hopper. And this is a single-dosing grinder, so adding beans to the hopper is something you’ll be doing regularly. When inspecting the grounds visually, the difference between this model and high-end hand grinders such as the Lido 3 and Helor 101 isn’t striking. My impression is that the amount of fines is roughly the same. The real difference is when it comes to boulders (the bigger particles). The Wilfa grinder, due to its flat and bigger burrs, produce fewer. On paper, the Ode appears to be similar to the Wilfa Uniform: big flat burrs (though housed vertically, instead of flat); single dose capable, big range of grind selections, and similar price.

The Wilfa Uniform + is a 58mm flat burr grinder designed for home use. Most coffee grinders at this price point use conical burrs. While these are great and more affordable to produce they tend to produce a less even particle distribution. To begin, the Wilfa Uniform Coffee Grinder has 41 different grind settings, putting its stainless steel flat burrs to good use. Therefore, it can grind for anything between espresso coffee to French press. Choosing between the different settings is easy too - you simply twist the hopper to whichever grind setting you’d like. Although this grinder is designed mainly with filter coffee in mind the burrs are able to grind fine enough for espresso-making this an excellent all-round grinder. If you mainly grind for espresso we would still recommend a dedicated home espresso grinder like the Baratza Sette 270. Superkop Lever Espresso Machine One of the most unique espresso makers currently on the market, this is our First Look at the Superkop ratchet lever espresso machine.A few European reviewers have put the Niche Zero up against the Wilfa Uniform for non-espresso grinding, and it’s interesting that most seem to give a slight nod to the Uniform grinder. This is even though Niche has a cozy relationship with a lot of the Euro-based reviewers. I am reviewing the Wilfa Uniform grinder, which sports a simple plastic lid, so that I won’t go into the scale’s functionality. But I will mention both models at the end of the review in discussing value for money, as they are priced very differently. Design – 4/5 When redesigning the Ode grinder, the main focus was - of course - the burrs. Both models feature the same sized 64mm stainless steel flat burrs, but Gen 2 burrs boast a new two-stage grinding geometry. The result - a sweeter cup, with more balance and clarity than ever before. Things got better from there. Even as things went sideways with espresso, they noted that it was a normal-retention grinder, meaning if you grind 18 grams of beans, you get close to 18 grams of grounds out of it. Sometimes, particularly with flat-burr grinders where gravity isn't helping, grounds get lost inside the machine or in the grounds bin, which means you're losing money every time you grind. There's even a grinder called the Niche Zero designed to leave (or retain) no grounds in the machine.

Of course! In fact, the Fellow Ode Gen 2 is ideal for a whole range of filter methods - from the finest pour-overs to coarse French Press and cupping. In total, it boasts 31 steps to choose from, so you can really focus on dilling in each new coffee. Plus, it's quiet. The Ode Gen 2 was designed with quietness in mind, so your brewing ritual can be properly peaceful.

You might see EPE discussed as a more environmentally friendly version of styrofoam, as it is more recyclable, but the truth is, millions of pounds of this stuff is in landfills, and will not biodegrade. In this day and age, this is just no longer acceptable, and we will call this out every time. You make espresso regularly: If you only rarely make espresso or you use a pressurized filter basket, the Wilfa Uniform is suitable as an all-around grinder. But serious espresso enthusiasts should choose something more specialized. The Niche Zero is a great alternative. It’s single dosing and has a conical burr set, which produces a more traditional chocolatey flavour profile. If you prefer a cleaner cup of flat burrs, the Eureka Mignon Facile is an attractive choice. The main selling point of the Wilfa Uniform is its simplicity of use. There are no digital readouts, no preset buttons, no extra fancy timers and controls. It has one control point: a round power button up front. Grind fineness is selected by rotating the top of the grinder. Wilfa asked Tim what he thought was necessary for an at home grinder. His reply was simple. Tim stated that flat burrs and an on/off button were the perfect ingredients. Wilfa got to work and now we have this beautiful machine. A consistent grind is the first step to a brilliant cup of coffee. This is a fact that Wilfa knows well! Yet again, they’ve produced an unrivalled coffee grinder, this time with the help of world-renowned barista Tim Wendelboe.
