PVC skirting is light and almost completely water-resistant, meaning it’s excellent for conserving heat in colder months thanks to its thermal insulation properties Whether you’re looking for small plain flexible skirting, skirting moulds, modern white skirting boards, ultra slim skirting boards or skirting covers, Wm Boyle in Glasgow, Scotland has it all. Skirting Boards add an extra aesthetic to your room décor by covering gaps and breaking up the lines between the walls and the floor. Adding finishing touches to the bottom of your walls also protects them from scuffs and scrapes, thus preserving the interior quality of your home. The phrase moisture resistant is used to describe boards that have a very dense core. This prevents the material from absorbing moisture and ensures that it lasts a lifetime (if not more!). Priming / Undercoating Adds Another Layer Of Protection A key point to make is that PVC skirting boards are not suitable for use in any high-rise buildings because they do have a certain degree of flammability and the materials used can release harmful fumes. Ease Of Installation

Skirting boards above 10 cm – it is suited for the rooms above 280 cm. A bit extravagant and flashy. In traditional interiors can disturb natural proportions and make a room seems smaller. But when consciously used they might be an additional asset to holistic interior design. It is more and more popular solution to achieve unified vertical surfaces of interior. This creates harmonized structure of walls. But it is crucial to pay attention to colours as each producer may have slightly different shade so even something as simple as white skirting can vary from one to another. Currently the most popular solution is to determine colours by the RAL palette. So a white skirtings in this system would be depicted by code RAL 9003. So when comparing shapes, width, length between different producers there is greater chance of choosing the same colour when RAL code is given. Since last year there are more designs of interiors using different shades of grey for doors and matching them with skirtings – the two most popular are RAL 7035 and RAL 7042. Secondly, hight and material of skirting board When we add a design to the board, we break the seal of the MDF - this is where the finishing helps with added protection against moisture. PVC skirting boards are a great alternative to wooden skirting board, such as oak. PVC is much more durable and resistant to moisture, making it ideal for use in areas where there is a lot of moisture or humidity and high traffic areas. PVC is also much easier to clean and maintain than timber, making it a low-maintenance option.

With that being said, we know our MDF skirting boards are fine for use in an average bathroom. However, we need to point out that our moisture resistant skirting is not waterproof. The biggest downside to using plastic skirting boards, and this applies across any type of material really – it looks cheap compared with wood which has a natural appearance that improves over time when oiled or varnished Whether you’re a housebuilder with a major project on the table, a housing association managing a number of properties or a homeowner redecorating a room or two, Roomline PVC-U skirting boards and architraves are the ultimate hassle-free solution. So if you want to drastically cut installation times and eliminate the bother of maintenance, look no further! Fitted in half the time An interesting solution is the STIQ skirting board dedicated to vinyl floors. Due to its shape, colours, durability and water resistance, this skirting board is perfect for rooms with vinyl planks on a floor. Thanks to its narrow profile and modern shape, it fits perfectly in any room, underlining and enhancing the qualities of the floor. It is a perfect substitute for commonly used plinth. The STIQ skirting board is also distinguished by its colours. It is available in two very fashionable shades of grey – RAL 7035 and RAL 7045. If you’re a homeowner, we don’t need to tell you how time-consuming and awkward it is to have to sand and paint skirting boards and architraves. This is an important principle worth following. Manufacturers offer a lot of waterproof skirting boards.

We are observing increasing popularity of blending skirting into the wall, when colour of the skirting is coherent with colour of the wall. The other solution is to create highly contrasting effect by combining different colours of skirting and wall making the skirting “pop”. It is very pleasing combination when put together white skirting with dark wall, but it is also possible to reverse the colours and attach dark or anthracite skirting to white wall. Both of those solutions have modern look in them but require carefulness while designing and experience in installing. Matching skirting to the door frame, door panels or cabinets fronts. Grey skirting idealy suits to natural oak shades You can buy skirtings and architraves in 15mm, 18mm or 25mm in and of our advertised lengths and you will receive moisture resistant HDF boards - you won't get these anywhere else! The term “Moisture Resistant” really means that this specification of MDF has a very dense core that will not absorb moisture from the air. This in turn stops it from swelling and distorting, or decaying over time as a result of exposure to moisture. Before 2018, only our 4200mm lengths were made using HDF. However, due to the superior finish achieved using HDF we have sourced the material for all of our current sizes! An important point is that they are not as strong or durable as compared timber, so if you’re looking for something which will withstand heavy wear-and wood that typically holds up well over time – PVC may be worth considering but not as the first choice. Pros And Cons Of PVC Plastic Skirting Pros:Most MDF on the market contains part softwood fibres, hardwood fibres and various other wood chippings. This is not the case with our premium boards - they are 100% softwood fibres that enables us to create a fantastic finish on a much more durable board. Why is your MDF called HDF? Skirting boards 6-8 cm in height are the most popular and typical solution. They can be used in almost every room. This height will keep natural proportions of the room. Is it durable? PVC skirting boards are made of polyvinyl chloride, which is a flexible but hard-wearing material that has been around for decades. They can be used in any environment and provide an excellent level of protection against fire as they will not ignite under normal circumstances thanks to their low melting point (150 degrees centigrade). Suitability That's right - every single MDF product we sell is now made from High Density MDF! We have sourced the highest density MDF on the market. Why is density so important?

HDF is stronger and harder than MDF. Compared to natural wood, High Density MDF doesn't swell at all making surface decoration much easier. HDF skirting boards are perfect in areas where moisture is present (bathrooms etc.) and where flooring that requires frequent mopping is installed. Whilst we cannot definitively answer this question for all MDF skirting boards, we can for all products that we produce. This is because there are numerous different grades of MDF available to work with, but we only use an industrial grade of MDF that is Moisture Resistant and can be used as your bathroom skirting. They're not waterproof. Prolonged exposure to water will cause the MDF to swell. For this reason, we wouldn't recommend using MDF skirting boards in a wet room. Metal skirtings are made of aluminium or stainless steel. They look modern, but it is not a popular solution, mainly due to the price and controversial design. At last there are also universal skirtings. They are the most popular solution. Wide colour range is adequate for the most popular colours in range across many producers. They can be easily selected in store just by putting next to the floor as they are widely available. Thanks to many colours is it very easy to find skirting for most of floors. The unquestionable advantage is their universal availability. Matching skirting to the colour of a wall. The floor is the largest when it comes to covered area element of a home. It is not only up to floor planks itself to create the beautiful environment but well matched accessories can make a difference. Choice of the skirting boards in many cases can be done at the final stage of renovation or finishing apartment and hence can be overlooked. In the meantime, skirting boards has not only aesthetical purpose, but also important functional meaning. Its quality, durability and appearance can make or break to final outcome of interior. Well suited skirting will allow to emphasize the qualities of even the most beautiful floor. On the other hand, wrong skirting can optically reduce the size of the room or disturb its proportions. So what you should take into account while choosing skirting boards? Are skirting boards a must? Skirting boards are meant to cover dilatation gap by the wall. This may help when using a standard grade MDF. However, the industrial grade MDF we use is the densest on the market and simply doesn't need to be balanced. As a rule stand, high skirting boards (8 cm and higher) are used for interiors above 260 cm. When looking for a skirting boards for typical family home or attic it worth considering 6-8 cm skirtings. The material we now use in place of our MDF is officially known as High Density MDF - hence the reason we refer to it as HDF. All of our MDF is now High Density MDF!
