About this deal

As a final disclaimer, this is about the OCG January 2023 Ban List. Several TCG exclusives like Garura, Wings of Resonant Life and Pitknight Earlie do not exist in the OCG yet. This article will attempt to cover my personal thoughts and breakdown of the relevance of these sudden new shifts within the F/L list while we celebrate the passing of another great year. Sky Striker Ace - Kagariis a very notable unhit, as if to celebrate the continuous waves of support the archetypes gets every year. This time, the power level of the game is way too high for Sky Strikers to compete. Although it may be a while before we can expect full power Sky Strikers again, we could be expecting even stronger cards for them, like the newly released Sky Striker Ace - Azalea. Generic Changes

In this current meta, Evenly Matched is the most effective way to clear out the opponent's field, at the cost of doing nothing during the Battle Phase. The less cards you have on the field, the stronger this cards is; and because the cards are banished, the Tearlaments Cards cannot activate their GY effects. Tearlaments Rulkallos…well…this is awkard in light of the new banlist, but lets review it as if that didn’t happen. There are a lot of relevant archetypes that could potentially go straight for the throne after the topple of power, so let us look at them! It's the end of the year again! And with every end, comes a new beginning: the birth of a new OCG Format. Santa Claus has a list of nice and naughty cards, and here it is in its lengthy glory! Number 41: Bagooska the Terribly Tired Tapir can be used defensively and stop any monster effects on the field, until you're ready to go on the offensive once again. Since the inception of Kashtira, Tearlaments has proven that it is basically able to merge with any other archetype. What happens when Kashtira is hit on the banlist? Will Tearlaments simply adopt yet another engine? Kitkallos" can add/send specific "Tearlaments" cards to the hand/GY, and summon "Tearlaments" monsters from hand/GY while sending another monster from field to GY by effect. Its GY trigger effect mills 5.

Tearlaments Kaleido-Heart" is named after a kaleidoscope, referencing the archetype's stained glass aesthetic. We of course have to look at the Tearlament Fusions, and we’ll look at the one that’ll be Fusion Material for the archetype’s next boss monster: Tearlaments Kitkallos.Activate the effect of Tearlaments Kitkallos; search out a copy of either Tearlaments Havnis or Tearlaments Scheiren. If Kitkallos hits the grave in any fashion she will give you a mill of five cards. Holy cow, there are a lot of archetypes that want that effect and Tearlaments are only one of them. Lightsworn and Shaddoll come to mind immediately. Within their archetype you have the potential of having all five milled cards trigger and that is something that really makes the archetype something dangerous. NOTE: Because Tearlaments Reinoheart was used as material, you can Fusion Summon Tearlaments Rulkallos instead in this combo, depending on your cicrcumstances. Alternate Card Options

One of the two Boss Monsters for Tearlaments, Tearlaments Rulkallos can deny the opponent a Special Summon once per turn. It also provides protection to Aqua-type monsters from battle, and can Special Summon itself if this card was Fusion Summoned and sent to the GY afterwards. Raigeki and Foolish Burial Goods are very weird hits in my opinion, because while they were never useful in the latest metagame, semi-limiting them makes no difference at all. However, they could be very important pieces for supports in the next three months, we may never know. What do I think of this List? Rulkallos" provides battle protection to Aqua monsters, and has a Special Summon-effect negate that also sends a "Tearlaments" card from hand/field to GY by effect. Its GY trigger effect has it revive itself if it was Fusion Summoned. The week ends off with the new boss monster for the Tearlaments archetype, and an upgraded form of Kitkallos, Tearlaments Rulkallos. Underworld Goddess of the Closed World can use one of the opponent's monsters as materials, becoming a safe way to remove monsters from the field. It can also negate Special Summon effects by tributing a monster you control. Personally, I think these erratas are great, as they have greatly lowered the potential of this card, yet kept it to an extremely playable degree. This Signer Dragon may see potential use in the future, but for now, we can only experiment with the tamer variant. Lava Golem and the other Kaiju-like monsters (like the Kaiju archetype, and The Winged Dragon of Ra - Sphere Mode) can actually take care of the Tearlaments Fusion Monsters, as tributing them does not count as "sent to the GY due to a card effect". You can Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower monster from you hand, but you cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.
