About this deal

January 2024: Deadline for applications to the majority of undergraduate courses. After this date, universities will start allocating places on these courses – but you can still apply after the 31 January deadline , as this article explains. A personal statement is a central part of your Ucas application, where you explain why you’ve chosen a particular course and why you’ll be good at it. It's your chance to stand out against other candidates and hopefully get that all-important offer.

Too often, applicants make vague statements like 'economics informs everything' or 'as an avid reader of The Economist…' but these don’t impress. What are my top skills and character traits and do they overlap with a profession that relates to that course? You could ask a parent, friend or teacher for some extra input if you're not sure. Aside from your grades there is nothing else for universities to look at when deciding on admissions. Writing a strong personal statement can help boost you above the competition, even if your grades aren’t quite what you were hoping for. Make sure you start with plenty of time ahead and follow the tips and advice given above. If you feel like you need any extra help consider sending in your rough draft for a review. What they do want to see is: what have you done? OK, so you’ve got some good grades, but so do a lot of other applicants. What have you done that’s different, that shows you off as someone who really loves the subject you’re applying for? The Government also intends to tax older electric vehicles, with those first registered between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2025 set to pay the standard rate.

How to write your university application

In making our judgements, we have relied on wage forecasts from the Bank of England and HM Treasury’s Independent Panel of Economic Forecasts. In recent years, new types of Isa have been unveiled, and there are now five different types of adult Isa, plus Junior Isas for children aged 17 and under. Tagged as: But alongside his statement, came the independent Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR)'s assessment of his plans - and the wider state of the economy. We have to remember that, at the end of the day, these admissions tutors are reading through hundreds of personal statements every single day of students who are probably going to say they have a similar set of skills, such as communication and organisation. So we want our personal statements to stand out with unique examples of when we demonstrated those skills. Also, avoid just listing work experiences that you did. I really recommend reflecting upon what you actually learnt from each individual work experience and why that furthered your passion and interest in the degree that you want to do.

This past week, I’ve been sent a whole heap of comments from various disability charities, and I’ve read some passionate posts on social media. We like to know that students are going to be interested in studying law. It's useful to know what motivated the applicant to choose law rather than all the other subjects on offer.James Taylor, director of strategy at disability equality charity Scope, said the Autumn Statement was a "missed opportunity to set out how disabled people can thrive". Editing your statement isn’t just about hitting a character count. You need to also make sure your writing is doing its job: explaining why you want to do the course and why you’re right for it. Hunt then U-turned on many of the financial decisions made by his predecessor - but the scrapping of the National Insurance rise continued, keeping it at 12% Some rumoured changes to the Isa system failed to materialise in the Autumn Statement. These include: Now my third tip for your personal statement is to be yourself. The personal statement is very much that – your personal reasons for wanting to do that subject. A really good way of conveying this is that, when you're proofreading or redrafting your statement, look at it line by line and ask yourself: "does this sentence convey my personal passions and reasons and enthusiasm for doing this subject?" If it doesn't, maybe consider rewording it so it does.
