About this deal

Made at the highly revered Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados, Doorly’s XO is a blend of column and pot still rums, aged for a minimum of six years and finished in oloroso Sherry casks. This rum is bursting with notes of toffee, tarte tatin and vanilla, with a warming, dark sugar note that makes it not too sweet but deliciously moreish. Great as a sipping rum. Alc 40% JM continues to innovate and regularly offers limited editions or collaborations with other producers to provide unique flavor experiences. One of the most notable examples is the series of aged rums that have undergone finishing in Calvados casks, creating unexpected encounters between Norman and Antillean terroirs. Choosing the Right Rhum J.M for You

This year’s festival was such a great event, it was an event dedicated to people who wanted to learn about rum, taste rum and cultivate themselves in the world of rum,” Lulaj said. “It was also a moment to have fun and spend a nice evening in the company of a local band with local music a nice Ti Punch in hand.” I’m still getting that dark and rich component from the oak, but it isn’t quite as loud as before. Instead, the fruit flavors get more of the spotlight, with the pineapple and banana specifically coming through strong. To be fair, it doesn’t have quite the same level of flavor saturation as before — it’s a little more towards the watery end of the spectrum at this point. Fizz (Dark and Stormy) Each barrel is carefully selected to bring specific characters to our aged rum. Before being used, our barrels are first charred by igniting high-proof rum inside the barrel. After the char has been scraped, new oak tannins are exposed, which deliver the barrel’s character and the rich color we want in our aged rums.On the nose, the V.O is again earthy, with that same pineapple note that I also got in the Blanc, but the stand-out note for me is a savory, earthy thing that is quite reminiscent of tobacco leaves. On the palate this segues into more of a toffee/caramel candy richness, with more tobacco, and a lingering earthiness. Mildly sweet, it doesn’t necessarily feel like maturation has been rushed, but it’s certainly not the most complex of the Rhum J.M aged offerings. It will, however, stand in absolutely fine in just about any mixing application where you might want to introduce a little agricole flavor.

Contemporary Rhum Agricole producers are experimenting with new ageing techniques, including using different wood types for barrels or varying the ageing climate conditions to create unique expressions. However, producers also face challenges such as climate change impacting sugarcane crops, necessitating a focus on sustainable agriculture and production practices. The biggest addition to this year’s event was the Rum Festival on the Harbor, an initiative spearheaded by Erjon Lulaj. Our team will advise you on your bespoke wine collection, whether it's a ready-to-drink cellar you're seeking, or bottles for ageing. MORE INFO Martin had recognized the quality of the sugar produced at this plantation and decided that they should switch from trying to mass produce raw sugar and instead focus on producing sugar cane for use in French agricultural rum. He built a distillery on the plantation and to this day, his initials (JM) have been branded on every barrel of rum produced at that location.A team of eight global rum experts gathered in Christopher Davis’ renowned Rhum Room in St Barth to judge a final field of 60 rums across eight categories in a blind tasting. In fact, the volcano is probably responsible for some of JM’s typical style. The volcanic soil on which the the distillery’s estate is built is incredibly fertile, making it perfect for the growing of sugar cane. Indeed, the distillery grows all the sugar cane it uses in the Habitation Bellevue estate, found a little further up mountain. Habitation Bellevue is the perfect location for growing cane, not just because of the soil, but also because of the warm climate, humid sea air and altitude. Despite this, volcano life has its downsides: prospective disasters aside, the added altitude means that whilst there is a greater yield of cane crop, the sugar content is lower, meaning that more crop has to be used when making the rum. Mixed it certainly works better it makes very enjoyable Ti Punch and is equally good with soda water and lemonade. It’s also very pleasant in a Daiquiri. It adds nice spicy notes to each drink – its quite vegetal. In that respect similar to a Jamaican Overproof. Créoles: an amber rum rich in spices and warm notes, offering an exotic and spicy touch to your drinks.

Price estimate statistics ---- J.M 2005 Of. Calvados Cask n°0410149 - One of 580 - bottled 2015 ----There’s a rich and heavy fruit aroma coming off the glass here, almost like a very sweet fruitcake — I’m getting some raisins, apricots, deep brown sugar, plums, figs, and a touch of vanilla for good measure. As the liquid settles, there’s a bit of the herbaceous raw sugar cane that peeks through, but it is significantly buried under everything else. It’s less of a tropical assortment than we saw in the VSOP and more of the traditional rancio profile. If you need a place to store your wine, you're in the right place, with our all-inclusive, simple, and digitalised solution. More info This might be the least known of the Rhum J.M variants in the U.S., as it hasn’t been in our market long. It sits in a bit of an odd position in the company’s lineup, being an aged rhum that has a lot in common with the slightly more expensive V.S.O.P release. Both the V.O and the V.S.O.P weigh in at 43% ABV (86 proof), and spend 3-4 years in American oak. The biggest difference seems to come in exactly how that oak is treated.

But the week was far more than just a competition, with nearly two dozen events across five days, from master classes with distillers and blenders to rum-pairing dinners to VIP cigar-and-rum pairings. Rhum HSE’s Samuel Laborieux gives a master class.

HOW to find

It was a rematch of 2021, when the same two rum houses faced off for the title, and again Neisson came out on top, another win for Neisson, arguably the most sought-after boutique rum distillery on earth. On the equally lush and verdant but arrestingly French territory of Martinique, Habitation Clément epitomises the character of agricole rhum, which is made using sugarcane juice. The distillery is doing some interesting experiments with cask finishes, which are more common in whisky ageing than rum ageing). They’re using the likes of Pedro Ximénez, Sauternes and even Scotch whisky. Rhum Agricole is a distinctive style of rum originating from the French Caribbean islands, most notably Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Marie-Galante. Its name, which translates to "agricultural rum," distinguishes it from molasses-based rums, emphasising its creation from freshly squeezed sugarcane juice rather than from by-products of the sugar production process. Rhum Agricole holds a prestigious position in the world of spirits, celebrated for its expressive terroir-driven character and the adherence to rigorous production standards. Named as The Whisky Exchange’s Rum of the Year 2023, this Jamaican rum is made by Appleton’s inimitable Master Blender Joy Spence and named after the water source that feeds the distillery. A blend of column and pot still rums, aged in oak for 15 years, it’s a rich, fruity, nutty expression of what Jamaican rum can offer. Hazelnuts, dark chocolate, orange peel and roasted coffee beans can all be found in this distinctive rum. Alc 43% Vieux (Old): Aged in oak barrels for a minimum of three years, these rums are smoother, with the wood imparting depth and warm notes of vanilla, tobacco, and toasted nuts.
