About this deal

My prayer is that the Lord will use this message to draw that line around you if you have never entered through the narrow door, which is Christ alone. Salvation is not just an interesting theological notion to discuss. It is of crucial importance for every person because the door is narrow and it soon will be shut forever. But right now it is still open. Jesus says to you, “Strive to enter by the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” I absolutely love an unreliable narrator when done right. There are so many thrillers that rely heavily on this trope while not doing it particularly well. But Harris used the trope so deftly, and I truly felt as though I was making Rebecca’s discoveries alongside her. And the difference in tone between the Rebecca of her memories and the one telling her story to Straitley was fascinating. There were times when I couldn’t tell if there was a supernatural element to the book, or if that was simply mind games being played on or by the narrators. That balance was kept on a razor-sharp edge that delighted me to no end. I was honestly more than a little in awe so how well Harris balanced every aspect of this story.

Our slimline bifold doors come in 3 different finishes: fully finished, primed or unfinished. If you want a ready to hang, factory finished door then our finished bifold doors are for you. Primed doors allow you the chance to paint your bifold doors in any colour you wish. With the priming done for you, these are also known as part-finished doors. Lastly, you can opt for unfinished bifold doors. These doors tend to be a little cheaper if the price is a concern, but it does mean you will have to do the finishing yourself. However, if you are looking for a particular stain, wax or other finish, this allows you full control over the final result. Materials Q: How much of this was based on your experience as a young female teacher in a boys’ grammar school? I received a digital copy of this novel from the publisher, OrangeSky Audio, via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Jesus says “Strive to enter in at the strait (narrow) gate” (KJV). The word picture here is of an athlete giving his best to win the contest. This means “to contend,” “to labor fervently,” or “to struggle against.” Following Jesus is not easy. This is why the gate is narrow. In Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” I believe the road that leads to heaven is narrow because only a few choose to truly follow Jesus. Most people choose to follow the crowd because following the crowd is easy—everyone is doing it! That is why the road that leads to destruction (hell) is wide. Which road are you traveling on? A. Salvation requires our earnest effort because the door is narrow and exclusive, not wide and all-inclusive. We all tend to procrastinate, but Jesus tells us that salvation is the most dangerous matter in all of life to procrastinate about.

Roy Straightly, a Classics master, is one of the old guard. Having been at St Oswalds for decades, he thinks he knows its secrets and those of his friends however what he is about to learn will throw all that into disarray and doubt. And it begins with the discovery of a body within the grounds of St Oswalds. I enjoyed Joanne Harris’s previous novels featuring ageing Classics teacher Roy Straitley and the troubled St Oswald’s School: Gentlemen and Players, and Different Class.. Indeed, I re-read both of them prior to starting this, and enjoyed them just as much the second time around. Unfortunately I found this latest addition to the canon rather a bind, and, having lost momentum about half way through, I struggled to finish it. In our text, Luke again emphasizes Jesus’ teaching ministry: “He was passing through from one city and village to another, teaching and proceeding on His way to Jerusalem” (13:22). If you know the end of the story, the mention of Jerusalem strikes an ominous note, because it meant rejection by the nation and the horror of the cross. Somewhere in some village some unnamed person in the crowd asked Jesus an interesting theological question: “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” I don’t know the man’s motives for asking the question. Perhaps he saw the increasing opposition from the religious leaders and he could sense that the crowds, although superficially interested in Jesus’ message, tended to side with their leaders. But he asked this question, “Are there just a few who are being saved?” I thought about talking more about the actual story, but it's too complex and skilfully woven to describe without giving too much away. There is such cunning and sharpness here, it's a story that totally enfolds the reader and doesn't let go until the very final line. Sometimes, burial is best. Why would you want to dig up the past? Especially when the mystery is so much better than the truth.”The day is coming when the head of the house (God) will get up and shut the door. Clearly, at that point there will not be another chance to get in. Once the door is shut, it is shut. Those inside are in; those outside are out. One year has passed since the events of DIFFERENT CLASS, in which Straitley was forced to confront his past, as that year’s New Head was revealed to be the toxic ex-pupil responsible for one of the darkest episodes of St Oswald’s history. This year, new challenges await; not least the death and subsequent disgrace of Straitley’s best friend, Eric Scoones, plus the arrival of girls in the School, and the appointment of a Headmistress, the first in the School’s 500-year history. A: About as much as I do with Straitley; I’m fond of them both, and more importantly, I find them both interesting; but it would be a mistake for anyone to feel that either is a self-portrait. However, I particularly enjoyed writing Rebecca because she is a rare example of a middle-aged woman protagonist in fiction, with all the nuance that entails. The closed door makes a final separation between those inside and those outside. There are none sort of in and sort of out. While there are gradations of rewards for those who are in and gradations of punishment for those who are out, there is a great chasm fixed between the two (Luke 16:26), with nothing in the middle. You won’t be basically in heaven because you’re a basically good person. Either you’re in because you have entered through the narrow door, which is Jesus Christ, or you’re out because you have trusted in your own goodness or in the fact that you’re a church-going American Christian. You need to examine yourself and carefully answer the question, “If I were to stand before God and He said, ‘Why should I let you into My heaven?’ what would I say?” The only correct answer is, “I am trusting completely in Your Son Jesus and His shed blood.”

Weeping and gnashing of teeth doesn’t sound like a fun experience, especially when it continues through all eternity! Think of it as an eternal root canal without anesthesia! These men had assumed that they would be included in the kingdom. They were Jews, not filthy gentiles. They were related to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But now they find themselves shut out and, of all things, those dirty gentiles from east and west and north and south are inside, dining with the patriarchs and prophets! My thanks to Tracy Fenton of Compulsive Readers for the invitation and to the publisher for the review copy. When I accepted this for review, I had no idea that A Narrow Door was the third book in the Malbry series featuring St Oswalds, following on from Gentleman and Players and A Different Class. This actually didn’t matter that I hadn’t read either of the previous books, I quite happily read this as a standalone. Sliding DoorsWhen most people think of sliding doors, they immediately think of sliding patio doors. While you can use sliding bedroom doors to access your balcony, there are other uses to consider as well. Using sliding doors for small spaces can be an effective way of maximizing the available square footage in a room. Sliding closet doors come in a range of materials, such as frosted glass, mirror, or wood. This can add a bit of style to your room without needing space for the door to swing open, thanks to the sliding door hardware. Beyond the bedroom, using sliding shower doors for small spaces where door swing isn’t feasible can give your bathroom a modern look without the use of a traditional shower curtain. Thus salvation requires our earnest effort and our urgent attention. Finally, Jesus teaches us that … Strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matthew 7:14)It was great to catch up once again with a character I felt I knew, Roy Straitley, his boys, colleagues and St Oswald’s School. Times have moved on at St Oswald’s and the traditional narrow door has opened a smidgeon and admitted not only a female head of school but also girls as pupils. That’s the kind of attitude that we should have toward our own salvation, according to Jesus. It shouldn’t be a nice thing to think about every once in a while when you don’t have anything better to do. It should be on your mind every day. It should govern everything you do. It should determine how you spend your time, your money, and your leisure hours. You must strive to enter because the door is narrow. It’s not a great big wide door that you can wander into without thinking about it. You must be earnest to make sure that Christ alone is your hope of salvation. Here at Express Doors Direct, we have everything you need to get your doors looking their best. Take a look at our selection of door handles, hinges and door frames to help you get your door hung in no time, without having to search across the web to find all the hardware you need. But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ ( D)

Rebecca is the new Headmaster of what was formerly an all-boys’ private school that is opening up to girls for the first time in its history. Seeing this school and others like it through her eyes was an enlightening experience. There’s a lot of discourse here about women in academia, especially in private schools. Even when Rebecca is able to break into the “old boys’ club” atmosphere, she isn’t treated like the rest of her colleagues. One of the schools in this book doesn’t even have a lady’s restroom; the women are instead forced to use the handicap facilities, which goes a long way to showing how their male counterparts view them. Being female isn’t a disability. But so many men in so many professions seem to believe so. Harris managed to both romanticize academia, as readers tend to do, and shine a light on its underbelly. Now, not later, is the time to make sure that you have a personal relationship with Jesus, not just a casual acquaintance with Him. One major evidence of such a relationship is that you are growing in holiness, not just outwardly, but in your heart. Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. ( A) 23 Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” Wardrobe doors: bi fold doors can be an effective choice for built-in wardrobes in bedrooms. They are a stylish and practical choice that can be seen as halfway between standard side-hinged doors and sliding doors.A: Absolutely, yes. I’ve tried to write it as a standalone story, as well as something that enriches and completes the other two. Plus, you can read the other books afterwards if you like – I’ve done my best to minimize spoilers. The novel has two timelines from 1989 at King Henry’s Grammar School and 2006 at St. Oswald's. Roy wants to know the truth, and Rebecca wants to tell: her brother's story, Conrad, the ghost who never left her family; as a young teacher in men's school; and a liar husband!
