About this deal

Don: So fleeing Vectors is the obvious play. With the doubling of the bare minimum points, it is pretty reliable outside of Custodes and Knights lists. With Ferric blight in the list and Armour of Contempt exiting the game, the ability to flash outbreak a greater blight drone and run it up in to a part of your opponent’s army that needs to be destroyed. It is a shooting army for the most part but has a fairly easy way of getting around phase caps with how many phases it does damage with. The Plague marines can do actions and act as cheap screening units. You can also keep your greater blight drones safe for a turn 5 Despoiled ground play. The 4th Plague Company are called the Wretched and are ruled over by a Daemon known as the Eater of Lives. With this Warlord Trait to bestow to its favourite, you can see how it got that name. While it’s not all doom for terminators, it’s not great for Plague Marines, where only having a 3+ save with no invulnerable save means they’ll die a lot faster in the Arks meta. That said, they got a small points drop to compensate and their weapons got better too.

Malignant Plaguecaster [5 PL, -1CP, 90pts]: 5. Curse of the Leper, 6. The Death Guard are carriers of countless infections and contagions, each a gift from Nurgle. Whenever they march to war, these diseases spread, contaminating all around, sapping the strength of its victims, draining them of energy, withering their muscles and overwhelming their immune system. Such is its malefic nature, they can even undo metallic bonds, alien psychic materials and all manner of other elements and components, rendering even armoured vehicles vulnerable. If every unit from your army has the DEATH GUARD keyword (excluding UNALIGNED units), this unit gains the following ability:

Heldrake • Stormbird • Thunderhawk • Chaos Storm Eagle • Chaos Fire Raptor • Hell Blade • Hell Talon • Harbinger • Chaos Dreadclaw • Kharybdis Assault Claw • Fire Lord • Doom Wing Biologus Putrifier [4 PL, 65pts]: Hyper blight grenades, Injector pistol, Krak grenades, Plague knife You can use Plague marines as a bait unit. Most units capable of destroying plague marines cost more than they do in either points or opportunity cost. Next: Chaos Space Marines At the front of the Daemon Engine's hull, a single eye lens stares at the enemy with feral hunger, while below it a fang-filled maw gnashes and drools. Should the enemy get too close, the Myphitic Blight-hauler falls upon them like a ravenous wolf, biting and devouring, or sprays diseased bile over them from the rotted nozzle that juts between its fangs. Exalted Sorcerer • Sorcerer • Warpsmith • Dark Apostle • Master of Possession • Master of Executions • Lord Discordant • Warsmith • Death Guard Sorcerer • Lord of Contagion • Malignant Plaguecaster • Plague Surgeon • Tallyman • Scarab Occult Sorcerer • Scarab Occult TerminatorsMyphitic Blight-haulers [14 PL, 220pts]: Myphitic Blight-hauler [7 PL, 110pts], Myphitic Blight-hauler [7 PL, 110pts] Thousand Sons are still a real problem for Death Guard, who have no way to mitigate mortal wounds. Plus the AP-2 shooting from that army is going to hit quite a bit harder, and they’re not really counting on any 2-damage output to force through. The upside is they’re no longer scoring a free 15 off you for Wrath of Magnus, but the downside is they’re probably teleporting into your DZ to score Behind Enemy Lines. Don’s list is an evolution of the vehicle-heavy lists he brought to tables in 2021, though he’s lightened up on the Daemon Engines in favor of Forge World units.

Death Guard Chaos Lord [5 PL, -1CP, 90pts]: 4. Arch-Contaminator, Blight grenades, Combi-bolter, Krak grenades, Lightning Claw [5pts], Plaguechosen [-1CP] The Death Guard got a significant boost out of the latest round of points updates, with drops to a large number of units. If you want more resilience, then the Crawler shines. The thing with the Crawler is that it seems to be in a weird spot because it has mixed weapon types which is normally a no-no; the mortar doesn’t require LOS so you want to park it behind a building or other terrain piece and bombard the enemy, but the rest of its weapons do and if you move out to take a shot, you’re hitting on 5s. Using it as a main tank still lets you target things that you don’t have LOS to, but it’s not an artillery platform like, say, a Basilisk or Griffon is where you park it in some ruins and it never moves. You want it to have clear shots to targets, and use the LOS ignoring mortar to make it so enemies can’t hide, rather than so you can hide. Chaos Space Marines • Havocs • Chosen • Chaos Terminators • Possessed • Greater Possessed • Khorne Berzerkers • Plague Marines • Noise Marines • Rubric Marines • Obliterators • Mutilators • Chaos Spawn • Fallen Angels • Noxious Blightbringer • Foul Blightspawn • Biologus Putrifier • Blightlord Terminators • Deathshroud I have also done a lot of theorycrafting on this, comparing the Helbrute, Blight-Hauler and the Plagueburst Crawler (I didn’t compare the Predator because it’s more expensive or the Forgeworld Dreadnoughts). Here was what I came up with:The even better news is that each of the seven Plague Companies of the Death Guard has been blessed with rules that reflect the way that they wage war. Each Company gets a unique Warlord Trait, a Putrescent Relic and their own Stratagems. Follow Typhus in the 1st Plague Company, the Harbingers, and spread the blessings of the zombie plague. The Astra Militarum are going to be likewise tough, with lots of ability to screen out your untis and prevent you from smashing through to their tanks as they hit you from a distance. PBCs can help take out mortars and protect your Poxwalkers, but nothing can stop you from getting shredded by Mortal Wounds from Kasrkin.
