About this deal

That leads us to an inevitable question: who should buy the HX90? Anyone looking for an impressive amount of CPU horsepower in a compact chassis, the HX90 is one of the most powerful mini-PCs on the market.

The inside can be accessed easily by removing the four bottom screws. The base plate can then be removed with a bit of skill. If you want to replace or expand the working memory, for example, you have to remove the entire board including the cooling unit. This is fixed with another screw. Minisforum is a Chinese system builder that specializes in ultra-compact mini PCs. We recently had the chance to take a look at the Minisforum EliteMini HM90 and were positively impressed. Now the manufacturer has sent us the EliteMini HX90, the current flagship of its portfolio. The EliteMini HX90 is aimed at a different target group and should also appeal to gamers. We will find out if this is true when we take a closer look at the gaming performance. Nevertheless, other users should not feel completely left out because the installed AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX offers excellent performance that is also very well received in everyday use. Additionally, this ryzenmini pc features five USB 3.0 ports as well as a USB Type-C port for high-speed connectivity of devices. It also features a 2.5 Gigabit ethernet port for lag-free online games. Compared to the AMD Ryzen 7 5700G, the Ryzen 9 5900HX shows only a slight performance difference. Both processors are almost identical. Nevertheless, the AM4-based processor can use up to 87 W for a short time, which makes the performance advantage clear.Overall this is about the price of a Project TinyMiniMicro node in this generation, but it is more readily available. One trades size and a better warranty/ support for a slightly better built-in feature set. Where this mini-PC really comes into its own is as a game streaming box. With the rapid rise in internet speeds, the shortages of gaming hardware like GPUs, game streaming has become a viable option for PC gamers to play the latest video games. Except for the barebones version, all versions come with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed. The barebones version does not include RAM and SSD; therefore, it does not have pre-installed Windows 11 Pro. For professionals looking to deploy workstations for intensive applications like video editing, AutoCAD, 3D modelling or software development, the HX90 is perfect to attach to high-end monitors for a clean office setup. Also on the gaming front the performance in terms of FPS of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is good. 4K Display

The Minisforum EliteMini HX90 is a very powerful mini PC for everyday use. However, only selected games can be enjoyed without any problems with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX.

Networking is provided via an Intel i225-V 2.5GbE NIC which was a nice addition. We also get four USB 3 Type-A ports on the rear of this unit. That means that overall we have a bit more standard connectivity than the TinyMiniMicro series.

The Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G is a very compact gaming device that is equipped with a full-fledged GPU. Because of its build, the device is based on a setup that the manufacturer has repeatedlyused to produce fast mini PCs and has thus become very familiar with. Fundamentally, Minisforum has improved its initial EliteMini HX90and expanded it to include an AMD Radeon RX 6600M, making the system more suitable for 3D performance and enabling limitless gaming in 1080p and maximum details. Small, powerful, upgradeable: The EliteMini HX90 is a Ryzen -based mini PC with high speed and lots of features. You can probably use it to play some games – after all, if portable gaming systems like the AYA Neo and GPD Win Max 2021 can be content with AMD's Radeon Vega integrated graphics, the HX90 should perform even better thanks to a much faster processor and more powerful GPU. Prices and Availability The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX belongs to the Cezanne series and is based on Zen3 architecture. The SoC offers 8 physical cores with a total of 16 threads (thanks to SMT). This is particularly beneficial for multi-thread applications. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX performs well, and the HX90G's overall performance is better than that of the HX90, equipped with the same SoC. For a more pronounced difference in CPU performance, the manufacturer could have used AMD's more recent Ryzen 9 6900HX SoC. Our performance rating has shown that this SoC is 10 percent above our system's SoC.The HX90G has another in-house opponent in the form of the Minisforum NUCXi7. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX has the Intel Core i7-11800H under very good control, but it cannot compete with the Intel Dragon Canyon NUC, based on the current Alder Lake generation. In numbers, this equates to a 12 percent difference in performance, which we would not consider noticeable in everyday use.The performances that can be reached by the Minisforum EliteMini HX90 mini PC are truly remarkable. For that, we got 32GB of DDR4 memory, a 512GB SSD, a AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU, WiFi 6E, 2.5GbE networking, and even Windows 10 Pro that we were able to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. Translation: if you want to do anything truly productive with this little toy be prepared to suffer with fan noise. Services like XBOX Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia allow PC gamers to stream their favorite games from the internet – just like with movie streaming with services like Netflix. This gaming mini PC ’s performance is further bolstered by the respectable dual-channel SO-DIMM DDR4 RAM running at speeds of up to 3200mHz. There is also an M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD to provide lightning-fast loading speeds for all your apps and games.

In terms of noise, in the video we had the unit held up to the microphone so you can hear it. At idle and lower power it is quiet, bot silent. At 100W+ it gets quite a bit louder.” Maybe iGPU will not allow you to play the latest games at high settings, but there is nothing to complain about, because it is the most efficient integrated graphics on the market at the moment. No wonder Minisforum has breathed a combination of aggressive and elegant character into the EliteMini HX90 housing made of carbon fiber. This one can enjoy the eye in any position, on a stand increasing the height by 25.7 mm, or even on a wall on the yet unknown VESA standard. Our review sample is equipped with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD. The device also comes with Windows 10 Professional, unless it is the barebone version. Everything is installed in a 195 x 190 x 60 mm compact case, which makes the Minisforum EliteMini HX90 slightly bigger than the MinisForum EliteMini HM90. Intel's NUC 10 is much more compact in terms of dimensions. Mass Effect runs at 60FPS at 1920×1080 with some graphics settings disabled. However by lowering the resolution to 1280×720 and have all the graphics enabled, you get a far improved graphics quality and solid 60 FPS. Gamers who are looking for a light gaming machine will love this device, with the power of the Ryzen 9 chip offering a buttery smooth experience.

Performance - compact and powerful

You may notice “carbon fiber” looking faceplates on this system. They are plastic, but they also look cool. Minisforum HX90 Stand Three Quarter Top The MinisForum HX90 is a high-performance mini PC that combines a futuristic, practical design and high performance into a sleek, miniature form factor. In our MinisForum HX90 Review video we spend a bit of time playing some Windows games and emulators including PSP, Xbox Original and PlayStation 2. Except for the barebones version, all versions come with Windows 11 pre-installed. The barebones version does not include RAM and SSD; therefore, it does not have pre-installed Windows 11. We were very pleased with the Minisforum HX90G's low emissions values. The device is not only quiet, it is also economical and always has its temperatures under control. Our test unit displayed solid performance throughout our tests with no severe faults. Its system performance is on par with that of traditional desktop devices and its gaming performance is impressive, with the Minisforum HX90G giving comparison devices equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 a run for their money.
