About this deal

Getting there: On foot from the car park at Penmaen, which is about 1 km up the hill on the A4118 road from Parkmill. They are on the eastern shore of Carmarthen Bay, where several other vast sandy beaches, including Cefn Sidan and Pendine – have formed. Arguably the one that most people have heard of, Rhossili Bay is regularly voted as one of the best beaches in the UK. It has won best beach in Europe and within the top 10 best beaches in the world over the years. There's ample parking, lots of restaurants and cafes, a hotel and the nearby sunflower field attractions. The walk down to the beach is a bit of a thigh-burner, but the views... The reservoirs are in a delightfully quiet spot with lovely views of the surrounding hills and countryside. Look out for wildlife including Canadian geese on the water.

The area also includes a freshwater lake, salt marsh and the pretty stream of Nicholaston Pill. Look out for birds including Cetti's Warblers, Sedge Warblers and Bittern. The final section runs from Penmaen to Rhossili, with a climb to the sandstone ridge of Cefn Bryn where there are more fabulous views of the Gower Peninsula. The Rhossili Bay Walk will take you along the beautiful beach before climbing to the high point of the Gower on Rhossili Down. Broughton is another enormous sandy beach in North Gower, on the end of the Loughor Estuary. It's a great place for the dogs to have a long run, but there is a bit of a trek from the nearest parking to reach it.The longer route there is one of the most enjoyable Rhossili Bay walks, passing path down to the causeway to the Worms Head walk and the medieval strip-field system known as the Vile. Visit this ruined 12th century castle and explore the beautiful Pennard Burrows on this circular walk on the Gower Peninsula. It's a stunning area with a wooded valley and the fresh water river of Pennard Pill.

Visit this spectacular promontory in Rhossili on this wonderful coastal walk on the Gower Coast. Worm's Head is shaped like a giant sea-serpent and marks the most westerly tip of Gower. There’s not a lot of it – mainly wet sand deteriorating into mud – but the seafront is one of the best Gower Peninsula walks.

A long finger of land stretches into the golden sand, culminating in the jagged three cliffs that give the beach its name. The sands stretch in either direction from Three Cliffs Bay, to Pobbles Bay in the east and Oxwich Bay in the west.
