About this deal

I use, and not everyone agrees with it, HP to neutralise the PP when you have PP'd the media for 24 hours. You can leave the PP longer but it will eventually neutralise itself.

K1 media is a light, small, wheel shaped plastic media that floats easily. It is used in pond filters to trap suspended solids and also to promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. These micro-organisms convert toxic ammonia produced by the fish into less toxic nitrate, and ultimately nitrate, through the nitrification process. A key feature of this media is that it has a fantastic protected surface area which greatly aids the development of these bacteria. It allows bacteria to colonise within the filter and, at the same time, prevents the unnecessary loss of bacteria through excessive water movements. By the way: bakki showers are very good to exhale CO2 and to enrich O2 in the water. The are extraordinary good in the reduction of ammonia und reduce nitrite also. The only way to reduce nitrate is by regulary water change!I also agree with what has been pointed out already in terms of Bakki shower being a very good bio filter - and a combination of several "right sized" bio filters with varied media improves water quality further. The beauty of K1 media lies with its ability to be easily cleaned and resistant to clogging. Due to its neutral buoyancy a small amount of air injected into a filter will cause the bed to move, thus separating the excess solids from the media surface area. The solids can then be run to waste. In this way the effective surface area remains as high as possible. Recommendations The wheel shaped structure of K1 Micro is designed specifically to create the most effective environment for the nitrification process to take place. As K1 Micro media matures, bacteria colonises in the “quiet areas” of each piece of media helping to improve nitrification / de-nitrification. This enables a well-balanced biological equilibrium to be sustained in your pond to keep fish healthy and the water crystal clear. Kaldnes Moving Bed process, which has been scientifically tried and tested in fish farming and waste water treatment for over 10 years, is now available for fish keepers and is exclusively distributed worldwide by Evolution Aqua. The media is engineered in a wheel shape and is slightly positively bouyant. This allows a small amount of water flow to circulate the media throughout the vessel. This flow is created with your air pump and air stones or diffuser etc. Bakki shower with de-nitrifying media - either BHM or Ogata Crystal Bio - both having similar de-nitrifying properties - one way how to DIY is covered in one of my threads

Will K1 mixed in with K1 micro be an issue or vice versa I wonder. As without seeing the two side by side and comparing with mine Im not sure how Ill tell which Ive got.I've not used K1 Micro just K1 and the problem with mixing the 2 could be that eventually you could start loosing the K1 Micro through the grill in the Eazy Pod unless it's designed for K1 Micro. Not sure if the sleeve that holds the media away from the centre pipe is different in the newer Eazy Pods to allow for the K1 Micro or not? personally the juries still out on k1 for me . only removed the multibay and jap mat due to space .when the drum was added K1 Micro Media from Evolution Aqua can also be used to replace existing filter media and is ideally suited toKoi filtration systems.

What is K1 media?

I don't think that there is any hard evidence that showers are any better than any other form of modern filtration. I have 250 litres of K1 in a large (8ft) multibay, which copes with any amount of food I throw in.
