About this deal

When choosing a water butt you should take into account the space you have available for it. It will need to be located so that the downpipe that runs off the guttering of the house or building can easily reach it. Most water butts come with a diverter that fits onto the downpipe and directs water into the butt. Water butts are a completely free way of harvesting rainwater, thus helping to keep your water bills down. This is especially beenficial if you are on a water meter, and need to be conservative eith the amount of water you are using. On average, spraying plants with water uses 4-6 litres per day. That adds up over time! Once your water butt is full, there's no need to be concerned about water overflow. The system is designed to seamlessly direct excess water down the drainpipe, ensuring that the rainwater collection process is hassle-free and self-regulating. The Gutter Mate is designed to accept 68mm, 76mm and 80mm diameter round downpipes and 65mm and 75mm square downpipes. This kit also includes a water butt stand that aids the filling of watering cans and a universal rain trap that channels the rainwater from your guttering directly to the water butt. The rain trap fits 68mm, 80mm and 100mm round plastic downpipes as well as 65mm square plastic downpipes.

It's available in three different colours (green, gunmetal grey and forest green). And it also comes with 230L capacity, if you're looking for something a little bigger. These Automatic Solar Powered Watering Systems are weather responsive smart irrigation controllers which uniquely use solar power to detect the weather conditions to alter the watering accordingly. Once the greywater has been pre-treated, it can be filtered using a very simple soilbox consisting of four layers of material. The top layer is roughly 2 feet deep of humus-rich top soil, which sits on a bed of very fine building sand, which in turn sits on a layer of course sand. Finally there is a layer of pea-shingle at the bottom to achieve excellent drainage. The water is initially pumped in at the top of the soilbox, where it travels down via gravity through the 4 levels. Most of the filtration takes place in the topsoil level where soil organisms feed and reproduce using the nutrients in the soil, essentially purifying it.Tap water is filtered, refined and treated before it is available for domestic use. The addition of chemicals such as chlorine, salts, and minerals can have an impact on your carbon footprint. Using a recycled plastic water butt is a fantastic way to use fresh water to treat your plants. Plants often thrive better when water from a butt is used because the temperature is ambient (similar to the surrounding environment), as opposed to tap water which is often much colder. This no-fuss water butt kit from White Furze is fantastic value for money. Not only is it easy to install (no drilling is required), but it comes complete with a stand, diverter, tap, t-piece and flexible hose. Its slim design makes it well-suited for smaller gardens. There is a reduction in the amount of pollutants entering rivers and water systems as less greywater needs to be commercially treated.

You need to make sure that your water butt is protected against the elements. In the winter, you can use materials like bubble wrap to insulate it to stop ice forming. However, ideally you want to invest in a water butt made from UV- resistant materials. The good news is that all of our Water butts come with a UV protected coating, giving you peace of mind when bad weather strikes. This water does not need to be treated with chemicals as any organic material remaining in the water can be absorbed by the plants. It is not recommended to use this type of water with home grown vegetables. Using greywater to wash clothes Greywater with food debris in it needs to be treated anaerobically using a septic tank (see treating domestic sewage for details on how a septic tank works). The water that comes out of the other end of the septic tank can then be treated with the soilbox filter or using wetlands as mentioned above. 4. Mechanical filters (for using the water to flush toilets) This Universal Rain Trap Diverter comes with a 0.5m quality flexible connecting hose, so your water butt doesn't have to be directly in front of a down pipe. Hose Dimension Diameter: 25m. Not suitable for cast iron downpipes. The C12 is suitable to irrigate one of the stated maximum planting quantities, or a combination thereof. To maintain this waterbutt, we've got you covered! - All you'll need is one of our Microbial Discs or our Treatment Bottle just for waterbutts! Water butts which are ‘below ground’ are fully protected by the earth that surrounds them and will not require additional care in the winter months. One of the primary benefits of installing a water butt is that it allows you to collect and store rainwater for later use. This means that you can reduce your reliance on the mains water supply, which is particularly important in areas of the UK that experience frequent droughts or water shortages (think hot Cornwall). By using rainwater for activities such as watering your plants or washing your car, you can save money on your water bill and do your part to conserve water resources. Another benefit of water butts is that they are easy to install and use. Most water butts are designed to fit under a downpipe, allowing rainwater to flow directly into the storage tank. They also come with a tap or spigot at the bottom, allowing you to easily access the water when you need it. Some models even come with a hose or watering can attachment, making it even easier to use the collected rainwater for your gardening needs. Recycled water can meet a variety of water supply needs and can reduce the impacts of water supply on potentially sensitive areas.

Using this greywater is relatively simple, you can either syphon it directly from the bath or sink or you can fit a valve to the external waste pipe allowing you to direct the water to a water butt, so it can be used as needed to water the flowerbed. Very easy to set up and once installed, it will water automatically with minimal supervision making it ideal for small to medium size gardens or allotments saving you hours every month. The diverter then automatically shuts off the flow to the water butt when full. Collecting rainwater with the Gutter Mate is both simple and efficient, whether you are saving rainwater to a water butt, tank or a full rainwater harvesting system.Great for the environment – not only are most rainwater butts made from recycled plastic, they also save approximately 30,000 million litres of fresh water each summer! The 227L Harcostar Water Butt Barrel is a popular choice amongst families and is a great way to begin recycling rainwater and saving money on your waterbills.
