About this deal

Regarding sizing, one would argue that Micro Scooter and Nutty Nutcase helmets are best for smaller heads. However, the two are only suitable for head sizes from 48 cm onwards. The Giro Scamp MIPS helmet comes with an extra small size suitable for head circumferences from 45-49 cm. Finance is subject to application, financial circumstances and borrowing history. Giro Scamp comes with an option for MIPS and non-MIPS. Depending on your budget and climate, you can always make a choice. Of course, the Giro Scamp MIPS version is expensive compared to the Giro Scamp Non-MIPS version. The latter is excellent for hot climates. All in all, the Scamp helmet is a great safety tool. Call it the safest helmet for toddlers, babies, and children!

We are sure it will thrill your preschoolers and toddlers straight from the box. It is among the best unboxing experience they can ever have. Ventilation FEATURES: Dial-adjust fit, soft sport-material padding, in-mold construction, 18 vents, fixed V side straps for easier fitBefore setting your child up for an impressive first two-wheel experience besides the bike, you must ensure the helmet keeps them safe. The Scamp is one of the safest kids’ helmets dedicated to ensuring no head injuries in case of crashes. For years, I’ve been recommending the Giro Scamp to other parents. All our friend’s kids have the Scamp, half the kids we run into the local bike park have the Scamp, and yet we’ve never actually done a detailed review of the helmet. In our tests, we found that the plastic liner of MIPS, which sits close to the skin, does tend to slightly limit the overall breathability of the helmet. While the plastic liner DOES NOT cover up any vents, sweat does tend to adhere to it. As a result, for those living in really hot climates, the non-MIPS version may be worth considering. Coming standard with MIPS safety technology, the Specialized Mio is on the more expensive side for toddler bike helmets, but it’s one of the safest and one of the easiest to use.

NH: Helmets are pretty tough, but you should give yours some care if you want it to last. Extreme heat can deteriorate certain materials, like the plastic shell or MIPS protection, so store helmets someplace cool and out of the sun. The Scamp’s optional MIPS technology adds an additional layer of safety to kids’ helmets. The foam core of a helmet protects a child from direct impact but does not protect from rotational injuries. In older versions of the Scamp, we found that on some testers with long hair, the MIPS anchors can snag their hair. It bothered some of our kids, but others were oblivious to it. With a size range that overlaps the Giro Scamp Small (49 – 53 cm), which one should you choose? Besides the obvious styling difference, the Tremor Child’s interior is slightly deeper and wider than the Scamp. If your child has a taller head or wider head, the Tremor Child would be a better choice. It’s available in several different boy, girl, and gender-neutral colors. The Scamp XS is unique because it’s one of the smallest bike helmets available. The only helmet that is the same size or smaller (that we’ve been able to find) is the Schwinn Infant, with a minimum head size of 44 cm. It is, however, significantly lower quality than the Scamp.

Giro Kids and Junior Helmet Size Guide

Even though they have less material, these helmets must still meet the same safety standards as all others, and the increased cost is mostly the result of deeper structural engineering to make every gram of foam count. law, Mips expressly disclaims all warranties of any kind, express or implied, other than those expressly Unlike the old days when helmets were multipurpose, today's helmets are built and designed for the purpose. With its sports design, the Giro Scamp youth bike helmet is intended for general recreational cycling.

The interior pads are typically machine-washable, so wash them occasionally to prevent odor from building up. Don’t put them in the dryer, though, since that will break them down fast. Let them air dry instead. All helmet manufacturers use the same sizing system, based on the circumference of the head above the ears. The sizes themselves vary from brand to brand, though, so it’s important to measure your own head and keep that number handy if you can’t try on a helmet before buying it. Weight, Ventilation, and Aerodynamics Your cargo is precious, and if that helmet doesn’t fit, it can’t protect your baby! Baby helmets can especially be hard because there aren’t a ton of helmets that are small enough to fit small baby heads. The Giro Scamp and Schwinn Infant bike helmet are two of the smallest helmets on the market. The Giro Scamp kids’ bike helmet has eight large vents that help with proper airflow within the helmet. Its inner padding has a sweat absorption capacity, which helps keep the kids’ heads dry for a long time. Notably, the non-MIPS helmets, the plastic liner does not cover the vents nor lets any sweat adhere to it.

In our article on choosing the best helmet for kids, we explored helmet terminology in-depth. If you wonder what MIPS is, it is an abbreviation for a multi-directional impact protection system. The fit is all that matters when it comes to a kids’ helmet. Once a helmet is fit it becomes snug as well. You probably have heard of the bad experiences parents who buy their kids poor-quality helmets have. Without the right fit, you can never win the war of convincing your child to wear them. It was there before almost impossible to come across perfect-fit kids’ bike helmets, mostly due to poor construction and not-so-focused kid-specific design. Today, kids’ bike helmets come in a range of kid-specific designs and features. They are snug, beautiful, slim, and lighter than the old generation.

Complete the Kit

The Schwinn Infant helmet is a perfect example of a seemingly decent helmet that is almost impossible to adjust properly. The chin straps never stay in place, which results in the helmet moving around too much, which greatly affects the ability of the helmet to protect a child in the event of a crash. As a result, when at all possible, we highly recommend paying the extra money to upgrade to the Scamp. The Little Nutty is very similar to Nutcase’s baby bike helmet but is wider on the sides, is a tad heavier, and is dual-certified for skateboard use. Between the Little and Baby Nutty, it can be a bit hard to decide since they are designed for the same 48 – 52 cm head circumference range. This ability to fine tune the chin straps on the Scamp is another reason why it stands out from the crowd. With many helmets, particularly budget helmets, the chin straps are often extremely difficult to properly adjust. As a result, these helmets often flop around on a child’s head and never remain squarely on top. The Giro Scamp with MIPS version is outstanding for safety but at a slightly higher cost. But if you are on a budget, get the Giro Scamp Non-MIPS version, which also comes in more colors and all the great features except the MIPS technology.
