About this deal

Oh, they don’t make it anymore.’ But there were a few to be found second hand. I put one in the basket, parted with the cash, and waited. Impatiently. Moving on to manual focus, the X70 gives you three manual assist options: Standard, Digital Split Image and Focus Peak Highlighting. All manual focus adjustments are carried out by turning the focus ring on the lens. The Manual Focus menu The 16MP resolution of the X70 is more than enough for a variety of applications, from landscapes to portraits to street.

I was shooting the Fuji around the house, grabbing test shots and killing time during one of the many sunless and bitter cold days so cherished by us New Englanders. Into the room stomps my daughter. She’s almost two years old, playful as a puppy, and loves antagonizing her dad. The kid wants to get her mitts on anything and everything, cameras included, and her slimy paws are especially drawn to review-ready mirrorless cameras that absolutely cannot be damaged or scratched if her father is to avoid the ire of B&H’s loaner gear team.

Adding to the discreet nature of the camera is the electronic shutter, which makes it possible to shoot at speeds up to 1/32000 in complete silence. However, it disables the use of flash and the extended ISO values. As with any electronic shutter, rolling shutter may occur with fast-moving subjects and banding will be present in certain artificial light conditions. The mechanical / electronic shutter menu And the specs added up too — APS-C sensor, tiny size with added grip, flippy screen, and a 2.8 lens. What’s not to like?

Despite it only being 340gm it has a heft to it that makes you feel comfortable with it in your hand. It doesn’t feel at all like a toy camera but more like a premium Fujifilm camera body.

Smaller than the X100 range, with a lens as sharp as those we can fit to the pro-spec Fuji X Pro, and a focal length that’s arguably perfect as an every-day carry, this camera seems to incorporate all the best elements of Fuji’s recent work. There are a few tiny problems and certainly some quirks that might bother certain shooters, and we’ll get to those. But first, let’s take a closer look at everything that makes the X70 a machine worth writing about. I set my aperture to f8 and my shutter speed to either 1/500 or if there is not much light then I reduce this to 1/250 or less if required. The aperture is f8 to give me a large depth of field. The relatively fast shutter speed is so as to avoid my photos being spoilt by camera shake or motion blur. The X70 is also a great gift for your favorite photographer or a photo hobbyist who appreciates well-made cameras. The Fujifilm X70 is something of a unicorn camera. Incredibly compact, exceedingly stylish, and profoundly capable, it’s the kind of camera that is, for many people, everything that a camera should be. I’ve spent the past month shooting this machine courtesy of my friends at B&H Photo, and there’s no other way to put it – Fujifilm’s X70 is just about perfect. The Fujifilm X70 is a compact camera which couples the large APS-C / 16 Megapixel sensor of models including the XT1 and X100T with a fixed 28mm equivalent f2.8 lens. Announced in January 2016, it’s aimed at enthusiasts who desire the quality of Fujifilm’s interchangeable lens cameras but in an even smaller and lighter body than the X100T, while sporting slightly wider coverage too. Measuring 112x64x44.4mm and weighing 340g, it’s even lighter than the earlier X20 compact.

And though I’ve spent a bit too much time talking about selfie shooting, it does at least provide a nice segue to what’s so great about the X70. No matter where you’re shooting it, or what you’re doing, or where you happen to be, it’s a fantastically fun camera. The short review (for those who already own the X100T): take away the hybrid viewfinder of the X100T, add a tilting touchscreen, shave off a few grams in weight, crunch it down to about 3/4 of the size, pop on a fixed 28mm equivalent lens and voila, you have the Fujifilm X70!
