About this deal

Klein is surrounded by people in harrowing circumstances and she does her best for others and herself. So the books are quite soothing, despite the dramatic tension. Frieda Klein, a London psychoanalyst, is a loner and an amnesiac who roams the streets in search of elusive sleep and even more elusive peace. She becomes involved in a child abduction case and butts heads with the DCI Malcolm Karlsson. When the case takes a horrible turn (thanks to her meddling), she becomes the target of killer Dean Reeve’s obsession. She seems to have an uncanny insight into Reeve’s thoughts. Their conflict results in murders, rejections, accusations, and threatens everything that Frieda holds dear. It culminates in the final book, Day of the Dead. Along the way, Frieda, once a loner, begins to form a group of unlikely friends. Frieda Klein a mysterious psychotherapist, who is in her mid-30’s, suffers from insomnia, walks around the streets within London when she can’t sleep where it is calm, quiet and empty. Living a private life, out of reach from people even her relatives, she does not allow anybody to set foot in her home; and the only family member she is attached to is Chloe, the 16 year old daughter of her brother. What makes Frieda’s character interesting is that she’s immediately established from being quite solitary to this person who is willing to solve a mystery.

Nicci Gerrard was born in June 1958 in Worcestershire. After graduating with a first class honours degree in English Literature from Oxford University, she began her first job, working with emotionally disturbed children in Sheffield. In that same year she married journalist Colin Hughes.Nicci French is the pen name used by the team of a husband and wife writers named Nicci Gerrard and Sean French. They are popular for writing psychological thrillers and hail from England, The United Kingdom. Nicci and Sean also write several of their novels separately other than writing the psychological thrillers together. The two got married in the year 1990 and from 1999 onward they have been living in Suffolk, East Anglia, England, The United Kingdom. Sean is Nicci second husband as she was married once before. From that marriage, she has two children named Anna and Edgar. With her marriage to Sean French, she is blessed with a couple of daughters named Molly and Hadley. Author Nicci Gerard was born on June 10, 1958, and spent her growing years in Worcestershire. She grew up with two other sisters and a brother. I'm not going to waste too much time on how this is such a good book and the characters, plot, pacing, setting etc etc are as good as always. I'll make an exception in writing a bit about Frieda, as even two people who know her well find it necessary to warn the investigating officer that Frieda is different. Her demeanor is usually taken as cold and indifferent by those who don't know her well, whereas first impressions could not be more wrong concerning Frieda. A great storyline, well written and with excellent characters, I really enjoyed this book and found it interesting and intriguing. If you've been following my reading journey for 2 years or 2 minutes, you'll know that I am intensely drawn to any type of crime fiction procedural. Police procedural, legal drama, clinical psychologist; I can't get enough, but I especially love when I find one that balances the ongoing series plotting equally with the crime being solved in each installment of said series. This continuous story is one of the most excellent, in those regards, on the market today; I cannot stress enough what a pleasure it is to be lost in the case at hand while also immersing myself in the drama and chaos of the characters' personal lives. Obviously the plot in this particular segment immediately intrigued me; a body found in the flooring of our main, reoccurring character is no easy feat to write. No plot spoilers here, but it was nicely done and my mind is till trying to play catch up from all the whiplash induced twists and turns.

Long time readers of this series are going to be surprised at the direction of this outstanding seventh outing for Dr.Frieda Klein and her friends. Something is horribly wrong. Tess is certain Poppy saw something—or something happened to her—that she’s too young to understand. Jason insists the weekend went off without a hitch. Doctors advise that Poppy may be reacting to her parents’ separation. And as the days go on, even Poppy’s disturbing memory seems to fade. On a north London high street, a runaway vehicle crashes to a halt, but the man in the driving seat was murdered a week earlier.

Nicci French has always played with the boundaries of realism and verisimilitude, but in this case I feel they streched our "willing suspension of disbelief" a tad too far. I have read standalones by this author before (actually it's a two person partnership - husband and wife Nicci Gerrard and Sean French) and really enjoyed them, so I knew I would enjoy this book too. One of the popular psychological thriller novel series written by Nicci French was published under the title ‘Freida Klein’. This series consists of a total of 6 books which were released between the years 2011 and 2016. All the books in this series feature the central character in the form of Freida Klein, who is depicted to be in her mid-30s and working as a psychotherapist in London. The first book in the Freida Klein series was titled as ‘Blue Monday’. It was published by the Michael Joseph publishing house in the year 2011. In the plot of this book, authors Sean and Nicci have described Monday to be the lowest point in the week and full of dark impulses. It is also depicted as the day which a kid is snatched from the streets. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that a 5 year old kid named Matthew Farraday gets abducted. A national outcry follows and the police begin a desperate hunt to catch the kidnappers.
