About this deal

So the Katch One is all serenity above the surface – but, like a swan, there’s some furious action going on underneath. Even with a relatively low-quality 320kbps file beamed over Bluetooth, you can hear fine details like the highest string notes and the husky edge to the oboe. As with movies, it’s remarkably transparent, offering the sort of clear and faithful reproduction that you rarely get from a soundbar. Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, LPCM, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby True HD, DTS 96/24, DSD, MPEG-H, Sony 360 Audio At Peter Tyson we pride ourselves on prompt, efficient delivery. Please note that the daily cut off time for all next day delivery services is 3pm. Although soundbars are typically designed with film and TV in mind, we also put them through their paces with music too, testing out a range of streaming options with a variety of genres, both classic and modern, enduring that we listen in the highest quality that the soundbar is capable of.It’s been a fair while since DALI launched a soundbar (the ‘also a full-on audio system’ Kubik One was the company’s last toe in the water) – and at first glance it might appear that the Danish specialist has simply spent time carefully stretching one of its highly regarded Katch wireless speakers. You know how Mercedes turns one of its saloon cars into a diplomat’s limo just by making it much longer? A bit like that. At the rear of the bar there are two further aluminium mid/bass drivers and two more passive radiators. The six drivers that need power are treated to a total of 200 Class D watts. The four large passive drivers work in unison with the four active woofers to help deliver surprising bass performance for the perfect movie experience. With the power to deliver the audio pressure needed even in bigger living rooms. Should the room demand even more bass performance, a subwoofer can extend the deep bass even further. The HDMI input (ARC) on the KATCH ONE is an audio only input. The HDMI connection supports the use of the TV remote control to adjust the volume, mute and power on/off. The Dali Katch One Soundbar delivers high-resolution audio with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and 24-bit/96kHz audio. It has Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless connectivity and multiple input options including HDMI ARC, optical, and analog RCA. The soundbar has 10 drivers and a built-in subwoofer for room-filling sound, and a sleek design that can be mounted on a wall or tabletop. Connections

And the Danish company Dali Speaker A/S is one of these specialists, because for a long time now they have been dealing with the problem of good television sound in many different ways. However, Dali Speaker A/S did not really have a large number of these sound bar systems on offer. In 2014, Dali Speaker A/S presented the Dali KUBIK ONE system, an extremely elegant soundbar, which was to be understood as much more than just a flexible all-in-one system. The Sonos Arc uses 11 drivers to create your soundfield, a number of which are upward-firing and angled into your room to bounce sound off your walls and ceiling and give you a more realistic Dolby Atmos effect. It all adds up to one of the most convincing Atmos performances you can get from a soundbar based on our tests. The SF150 also features Sony's S-Force Front Surround technology, which applies processing to give the acoustic impression of a more encompassing sound stage. While there is no replacement for surround sound,it adds a dramatic sense of weight and separation. With 5 different audio inputs, Katch One connects to any audio device and includes four ways to connect to your TV and ample music streaming devices. Auto signal detect on all inputs automatically powers on the speaker when your TV or audio source is. The topic of “good TV sound” has been a big issue for Dali Speaker A/S for years, and it was a great surprise to many that they did not deal with classic soundbar systems as intensively as other loudspeaker specialists. With the Dali KATCH One, however, the company now has a solution on offer that once again does things differently from comparable systems on the market and can therefore present itself almost perfectly. You’ll find a 25mm horn-loaded tweeter at each end, working together with five 50mm front-facing woofers to fire out audio at different angles, bouncing waves off the walls of your gaff to create some semblance of surround sound. It will never compete with a proper Dolby Atmos setup, but it certainly spreads wider than the unit’s width.

And if you want to place the Dali KATCH one directly on a lowboard or sideboard under the TV, you can of course do the same, and here too the Danes have come up with a special feature, namely discreet but extremely elegant wooden feet which are plugged in at the bottom. A rubberised underside ensures that the surface of the furniture is protected. In addition, this also ensures optimal decoupling. The really important thing… If you want to bring a subwoofer into the game, although – let’s face it – it is not necessary, you can do this via a cinch connection. The Dali KATCH one is, in our humble opinion, exactly what it should be, a soundbar that can be integrated as simply and easily as possible into any living environment, leaves a very elegant impression, guarantees easy operation and delivers impeccable TV sound, no more, no less. Dali Speaker A/S itself does not promise anything else, does not talk about a home cinema solution, does not lure with anything bombastically exaggerated, but simply presents what the Dali KATCH one can actually deliver, TV sound, but in such a way that it sounds very appealing and flawless. There’s plenty of muscle, making the movie’s beach battle scenes sound loud and full-bodied. Big explosions hit hard and fill the room, revealing the woofers’ impressive bass reach. We won’t pretend that it doesn’t benefit from an external sub, which helps dig out low bass frequencies that the DALI can’t reach, but we could quite happily live without one. Two 21 mm tweeters are responsible for the high frequency range. These are fabric dome tweeters and thus models that are known from Dali Speaker System in the upscale segment. A particularly powerful drive system based on neodymium magnets is used here, which accurately set the ultra-lightweight diaphragm in motion, while still being highly resilient and highly sensitive. On the one hand this guarantees a detailed and precise reproduction in the high frequencies, and on the other hand the comparatively large diameter allows the tweeters to play very “low” in the frequency range down to 2.5 kHz, the crossover frequency to the woofers on the Dali KATCH one. All in all, a frequency range between 46 Hz and 25 kHz can be reproduced in this way. Of course, the drivers are controlled by a DSP-based signal processing, which – according to the manufacturer’s promise – only has to intervene very discreetly due to the described design measures. Both the casing and the front baffle of the KATCH ONE are moulded from a glass fibre reinforced ABS compound. This material enables us to construct a platform for the drivers that optimises the flow of air, widens the stereo image, and guides the sound towards the listener. This forms the base for an extremely rigid structure that ensures that the movement of the drivers does not cause unwanted resonances in the cabinet structure that could result in distortion of the audio signal. Please note that our couriers will try to deliver as arranged but we will not be held responsible for any costs incurred because of non-delivery or factors introduced by third-parties. This service is based upon best endeavour and is not guaranteed. Ideally, we would recommend going all in on an AV amplifier and matching home theatre speaker system, but in reality, we understand that not everyone has the space and/or the budget for something like this. That's why we recommend a soundbar as a great alternative. The music is exposed somewhat as a combination of distinct elements, rather than as an entirely unified whole as it is when delivered by a hard connection. Taken in isolation, there’s much to admire about the way the DALI serves up the song – the gimpy tempo is handled confidently, the keening melodica cuts through the rest of the information with real bite – but there’s not quite the previous level of unity.

With TVs getting thinner, especially OLED models with razor-sharp chassis, there is considerably less room for proper sound systems. While this is an inevitability, it doesn't excuse poor sound quality, which is why we always recommend budgeting for some sort of sound system when you buy a new TV. Delivering Dolby Atmos from a small chassis is no mean feat, but the 2023 What Hi-Fi? Award-winning Sonos Beam Gen 2 achieves a convincing, immersive performance without so much as a vertical speaker in sight. Instead, when watching Atmos content, two of the soundbar's five front-facing arrays are dedicated to reproducing overhead and surround sounds. With its hefty processing power, the Sonos Beam Gen 2 uses psychoacoustic HRTF (head-related transfer function) technology to give the impression of height without needing to get vertical. As TVs get larger, the space for quality audio systems gets even smaller. With slim profiles in vogue, audio performance is the first to suffer. For viewers that demand their TV sound to be just as sharp as the picture, DALI has created the KATCH ONE. A stylish, complete one-stop soundbar that upgrades the whole TV experience by adding that missing audio excellence. You’ll want to think about how you plan to use your soundbar and make sure the model you get has the connectivity options to support the devices you plan to use with it. For example, do you want to use HDMI or optical audio, and Bluetooth or Wi-Fi? If your TV has HDMI ARC or eARC, consider getting a soundbar that supports this feature, as it allows for better audio and control over a single HDMI cable. We reserve the right to refuse installation should our engineers think that the existing electrical or plumbing points are unsafe and in need of maintenance or if they are unable to install to existing furniture. You're transported to the heart of the action. Surround effects are expertly placed and there's great dynamism and good weight to the sound too. Tonally, it's nicely balanced if you just want to listen to music, although it could sound a tiny bit more direct. But, there's no doubt this is a hugely impressive Dolby Atmos soundbar for the money. We do provide installation options for built-in appliances providing it is simply a case of fitting the appliance and furniture doors. Any additional work to the kitchen units or carpentry work required will need to be completed at the customer’s expense.
