About this deal

I personally use a Trakker Pioneer Ultralite, which follows the principles of brolly design but has an external aero grade frame to offer better strength and stability. The Trakker Crossfire is another shelter designed to appeal to The frame of the shelter comes already set up, so you don't have to spend time assembling poles and threading them through the tent's fabric. Anglers looking for a lightweight, umbrella-type shelter that could be used overnight on warmer evenings.

The extended side skirts allow for extra protection from the elements in particularly bad conditions.

Coarse

One of the key features (other than price) that sets this day shelter apart from the competition is its weight. Rigidity is much improved, too. Rather than having thin ribs, most brolly shelters or domes utilise hollow frame bars, which are opened out and slotted together to give excellent stability. Some even offer additional tensioning poles which fit between the bars to increase stability even more, and thus you could fish into harsher conditions in relative comfort each year with greater ease than you could with an oval brolly.

Verdict – A firm favourite out on the banks, the Trakker Specimen Brolly is truly versatile and adaptable. It stands up well to the elements and is extremely easy to use. Highly rated. Structured like a traditional fishing umbrella, the sides are useful. This helps if you’re fishing in windy conditions, or you need extra protection from the sun.

Carp Fishing Brolly Systems

Two strong storm rods are also supplied for fitting to the front of the canopy as shown in the above image. The Crossfire’s fresh new design provides a lightweight alternative to pram hood bivvies and offers more protection than a conventional brolly or shelter thanks to its external frame support.

The Easy Shelter Plus is an upgrade to the classic and, as such, is definitely a contender for the best fishing day shelter award. The compact nature of the fishing shelter makes it slim enough to easily fit in your rod holdall with plenty of room spare for landing net handles and such. Two telescopic poles serve structural purposes as well, acting firstly as a rear pole that slots into place at either peak or base. The best brolly system will have several important features. First of all (and it should be obvious) you want your brolly to be waterproof. Features such as taped seams and drainage systems ensure that it stays watertight. Ease of transportation and setting up is a feature manufacturers are keen to develop in the best brolly systems. Most now are of the ‘pop up’ variety and bear little resemblance to a normal umbrella. If it’s compact enough to fit into a holdall, or be carried easily, then life is so much easier. Are you sure you fish in the UK? If so you’ll be familiar with the concept of having four seasons in one day. Depending on your location you might find the weather is highly volatile.

Supplied separately the overwrap converts the shelter to a mini bivvy and also features a roll up zippable door for easy access.A convient 5'6 when folded, 2.3m wide and 1.5m tall when fully erect. The canopy of the shelter is constructed from PU-coated nylon, which has been treated to increase its durability and extend its lifespan. There are various extras you can get (many of which come as standard) with oval brollies including groundsheets, front panels with windows and roll up and removable doors, and even full winter wraps. All these extras only add to the versatility of the oval brolly and allow the angler to simply take the extras required to cater for the conditions at hand. The Daiwa Mission Overnighter come supplied with two strong storm rods. This gives the brolly the additional structural support that you’ll require. The Mission Overnighter also comes fitted with second storm caps, which are located on the sides of the brolly and can be used with shorter storm rods (not supplied). These are ideal for use in the windiest and wettest conditions, when you want that little extra support to prevent the brolly from flapping or shuddering in the wind. The Overnighter is also easily adapted to a full shelter system offering protection from all angles by fitting the matching overwrap (available to buy separately). This overwrap has easy access doors and can transform the brolly into a mini-bivvy, making this one of the most versatile systems available. Some anglers may prefer to keep this fitted, which is useful if setting up your umbrella over wet ground. This proved to be easy using the telescopic alloy storm rods. It took me around 5 minutes. As to why you should choose a brolly system over other solutions? Well, in comparison to a bivvy it is much lighter whilst giving many of the same benefits. Anglers who want a little bit more than an umbrella-style day shelter with an easy to setup bivvy option. The doors on this shelter have 2-way zips that enable you to create a letterbox type opening that protects and allows for good ventilation at the same time.
