About this deal

After Federica Pallavicini's father was treated for brain cancer, she wanted to help him with his recovery from the surgery. "I began to look into ways of improving his cognitive health without it being a burden or reminder of his situation," she says. Inspiration came from an unusual source – video games. FUSS-FREE & FUN FOR HOURS - Addictively simple so you can play straight away and won’t want to put it down. It's couch-friendly too - no small pieces!

The game is sustainably made and is one of the first in the world to be certified as carbon neutral. On top of this, a tree is planted for every game sold with 100,000 planted to date. The bilingual HYDERUS? board game If you’re like a lot of people, you’ll be saying you really don’t know while still trying to figure it out! But what if you’re allowed to answer with a range of dates? And what if the smallest range with the right answer wins? That’s the universally-popular idea behind the new trivia game Confident?… Ceri runs the business day-to-day, and being a Welsh speaker from Llanelli, the idea of a Welsh version was always close to his heart: We’re unfortunate enough to be halfway through a 14 day isolation period at home, so having spent all day on their laptops doing their home learning, we’ve been trying to get the kids off their technology on an evening and doing other, less insular activities. Family board games have always been a brilliant way of getting us all to spend time together in a fun way that everyone looks forward to, and now the kids are getting a bit older, it’s been great to turn our family board game evenings into something a little more mentally challenging and little less manic and mad.

René Proyer, professor of psychology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, says that playful adults are those able to frame everyday situations in such a way that they become entertaining and intellectually stimulating. Whether it's an obsession with Candy Crush on the morning commute, playing video games with friends or even sharing a private joke with your partner or colleague, most people are playful, and yet the benefits might go unnoticed or nurtured. HILARIOUS GUESSES - Flip your answer boards for the big reveal and laugh at crazy ranges. Smaller range = more points! Pallavicini puts the mental health benefits of playing video games down to achieving a state of "flow". She says flow is the " the optimal experience when nothing else matters", and is also experienced by athletes and sports people when they are in the zone. Playing to find the flow state can provide an enjoyable challenge and distraction from mental health issues, she says, meaning the player can work on their wellbeing without feeling pressured to improve.

There are quiz games, and then there are QUIZ GAMES. CONFIDENT? is making trivia fun again with its unique gameplay that gives everyone a chance. Families and friends across the nation have fallen in love with its quirky questions, dramatic reveals and cheeky answer swaps. From teenagers to grandparents, its multi-generational appeal makes it a must-have for parties, game nights and get-togethers. It only takes two minutes to learn, you can play as individuals or teams, and everyone plays every question, so no one gets bored.

Pallavicini has a personal connection with gaming. As a psychologist who studies the applications of virtual reality and video games for mental health and psychological wellbeing at the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy, she noticed the improvement on her own mental health and lower stress levels after she played Call of Duty (CoD). The first-person shooting game put players into a simulated war, and so is more commonly associated with violence and stress than as a way of improving mental health. Pallavicini, however, says playing became a form of therapy that was highly beneficial in her day-to-day life, and later inspired her career in research. With this in mind, she wondered if play could help her father, too. We’ve also tried to put our personalities in the game with intriguing questions, funny comments and interesting facts. They tend to stay with people long after everyone’s finished playing. We also thought about all the possible points of frustration – taking turns, someone else getting better questions or it taking ages to learn – and tried to fix those.
