About this deal

In the darkness, when it's just you and your thoughts, you can let your true self shine through in all its glory. Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces… Some people are meeting online to play games and create laughter and relaxing repartee. Relaxation is essential during dark times. Stripped young of the illusion that the world has been conquered, charted, angled for human need, Les has always preferred the scale of life at sea. Out here bait balls, the size of football fields appear from nowhere, the water surface suddenly sparkling with tens of thousands of glistening fish. Biblical weather arrives full of portent”. To me this is an outstanding work of fiction. It oozes style, draws you into its world, and delights with prose on par with any of the greats. I’m sure there will be detractors who will criticize the reality of some moments in the book, but I preemptively counter that reality is stranger than fiction and I think this book does a phenomenal job of capturing that essence, while still remaining grounded.

From the author George Saunders hailed as “an exciting new presence in American writing,” a stunning novel about a couple trying to rebuild their lives in their deteriorating coastal town. Words like ‘wrenching,’ ‘bleak,’ and ‘rabbity,’ came to mind while reading about this decoupled couple, Marlene and Les, who are coping with a suffocating grief. Les’ job as a scallop fisherman on a trawler is punishing, unforgiving work. He and his regular crew go by monikers that function as avatars—John Wayne, Stray, Hoover, Monk, to name some of them. This work appeals to emotionally broken individuals, allows them to focus on specific tasks to get through the day. Les withers from Marlene’s view, unable to confront the built-up resentment and unsaid words. Marlene is just as stubborn.Strong's 2089: (a) of time: still, yet, even now, (b) of degree: even, further, more, in addition. Perhaps akin to etos; 'yet, ' still. Yea, even if I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will not be afraid of evils: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, these have comforted me. Jul. 31, 2020 - Community is the heart of the Out of the Darkness Walks. Organized by teams of volunteers in 400 cities across the country, the Walks unite more than 300,000 people each year, showing the world that it’s important to talk about mental health and suicide. So what happens when we’re in the midst of a global pandemic that makes hosting large in-person events uncertain? We double down on our “why” and get creative. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Strong's 3588: The, the definite article. Including the feminine he, and the neuter to in all their inflections; the definite article; the. One specific sex worker, Josie, began spending the night over at Marlene’s house regularly when Les was out at sea scalloping with his fishing crew. Les could be gone for one or two weeks at a time. It can sometimes feel that darkness will never end, especially when it's related to negative events or a person's behavior. These meaningful quotes about light in the darkness can remind you or others that there is hope for a better tomorrow.

Josie slept over often (rather than return to the Hotel Villages where she lived will Bill, quasi-boyfriend-pimp). Marlene and Josie spent their evenings together cooking, eating, and drinking wine. They talked. They started to get to know each other better by playing a ‘Me-You’ game…..slowly trusting each other with personal truths. Drink the potion. You will arrive at a scene where Baroness Leila Montclair, Duke Montclair's wife, lies on her deathbed; her husband and daughter are begging her to accept Reezal-Jul's help, but she will not. Baron Montclair will call Verandis (you) aside to talk; speak with him and he will ask you to turn Leila into a vampire. You can either refuse the request or offer to ask Leila whether she wants this. If you refuse this, [?]. If you accept, go talk to Leila. She will refuse the request, after which the real Count Verandis will tell you he has vague memories of talking to someone else, but he cannot remember who. Head out of the room and you will run into Reezal-Jul; talk to him and he will tell you about an Ayleid artifact he can use to cure the baroness. Since the countess doesn't want his help, he will ask you to use the artifact to save her. Walking at night is like discovering a new world on your doorstep, one that allows you to roam beyond the duration of winter’s short days and explore in the time of Covid. As Henry David Thoreau wrote in Night and Moonlight: “Night is certainly more novel and less profane than day.”
