About this deal

You don’t go into a John Hart novel expecting an easy read. His books are not for the squeamish. And this one is no exception. But, boy is it good!

I’ve already discussed what impressed me the most regarding The Unwilling (its choice to make its lead character a man suffering from mental illness and make him the hero-not the monster), but what I didn’t discuss was the performance given by David Lipper as the obsessive compulsive and agoraphobic hero David Harris. Richly complex, as intricately woven as a fine tapestry, soul-piercingly emotional, this is John Hart at his lyrical, atmospheric best. He builds a world and draws you in, and there you remain, a willing captive."

We the unwilling, led by the unqualified to kill the unfortunate, die for the ungrateful." -unknown soldier

This book also has at least two serial killers. It is the character of X, living in a suite of cells below death row, running the world with his connections and billions of dollars, that is so over the top and so overpowered that it throws parts of the story into comic book super supervillain territory. So this story left the realm of real life for me and became something else. I cared so much for the characters of the family and their friends but not so much at all for the ugly underworld that had taken over Jason's life. This book was received from the Author, and Publisher, in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own. This is a dark epic fantasy that moves along at a steady, albeit unhurried pace. The storyline is complex, has a huge cast of characters and there are plenty of twists and turns to hold the readers interest. The author takes the time to build up the world and the characters are complex and explored in depth and detail. I particularly liked the strong female characters, as well as the relationship Gavin and Judah had with each other, their strange connection and the unique wrist ‘scratching’ system they devised to communicate with each other.
