Have you ever felt proud of yourself because you think that you were good? How would you feel if it turned out that your pride was for naught because, in a bigger world, many people were better than you? It was a good weekend when I watched this Our Secret drama. No complicated story, no characters such as green tea or white lotus or Mary sue, just an ordinary student and an ordinary world. There’s no need to frown while watching Our Secret drama, unlike other dramas that make you frown for the whole episode. You’ll be saving a few drops of your retinol serum…😂 Zhou Si Yue is Ding Xian’s childhood friend and neighbor. He was the most brilliant student at their school. At first, he helped her because Ding Xian’s parents asked him to take care of her at school. But later, Zhou Si Yue was dazzled by her determination and cuteness. He keeps his feelings inside because they need to be focused on their college entrance exams. Our Secret drama review – Ding Xian and Zhou Si Yue Rainbow Xu is not an experienced actress but she is still able to make Ding Xian looks timid and introverted as required. She captures the essence of the character with the way she speaks and her mannerisms. Thus, both of them provide viewers with very realistic characters with the way they depict their roles. Their chemistry as a high school couple is evident in the drama. There is no skinship given that they are students then but their interactions are sweet and cute to give off a feeling of an innocent romance. Well-Written Characters Mr. Zhou finally realized that his glory was nothing without his family around. His wife and son were far away from him, but they rushed to be with him when he encountered hardships. He regretted the way he made them wait for him. And Mrs. Zhou, who seemed weak and spoiled, was actually a forbearing person.
I think both the leads did a great job in portraying their characters. Chen Zhe Yuan seems like a natural fit as Si Yue with his smirks and air of indifference. Si Yue’s character is not cold and arrogant but neither is he friendly and warm. He is somewhere in between. Chen Zhe Yuan manages to give Si Yue this balance so that he appears just like the typical boy next door. By the time they reached senior high school, they already have unspoken feelings for each other. They have also made a pact to enter a prestigious university together. However, Ding Xian couldn’t get enough marks to get into the same university as Si Yue. She opts to repeat another year at high school which means separation for both of them. She makes it the following year but Si Yue seems no longer interested in her. Our Secret Ending (Spoilers Alert!)Sha Di is Ding Xian’s best friend and classmate at school. She has known Zi Qi since they were kids and has feelings for him. Su Bo Cong / Senior Su In Episode 23, Senior Su quits his job which has caused him to lose his principles and life direction to chase after success. He also hands over evidence of Si Yue’s father’s innocence to Ding Xian when he had unsuccessfully used it to lure Si Yue to work with him earlier to steal information from a competitor. He and Ding Xian remain as friends. The Storytelling: The Sweet Formula.Zhou Si Yue and Ding Xian’s high school days are filled with 曖昧 ( ai-mei) – a relationship more intimate than friends. He’s forward and she’s shy; they always find a way to communicate their misunderstandings. Halfway through the drama, our relationship flips! It’s Ding Xian actively pursuing Zhou Si Yue, slaughtering his tender heart with her cute bravery. Last third of the drama, the drama flips again and it’s Zhou Si Yue pursuing Ding Xian! I don’t see how a romance drama can fail when both of them are so cute and so active and so flirtatious in their pursuit of one another. Ding Xian insisted on entering science class even though she must oppose her mother and Zhou Si Yue surprisingly wanted to enroll in liberal arts class. But, fortunately, Ding Xian came at the right time to give her application form to their teacher. Otherwise, they will miss each other for the next few years…😆 The characters are written in a way that matches real life with their flaws. Yet, they do not end up being annoying. Instead, they easily entice viewers to root for them. There is also room for growth as they mature to become adults. In short, the main characters are not one-dimensional but have depth to their personalities. My Verdict – Engaging For The Young This drama follows the story of Ding Xian ( Rainbow Xu) and Zhou Si Yue ( Chen Zheyuan) a story adapted from the novel 耳东兔子 which is set in the High School and University Years of their lives. Meeting for the first time in high school, the two did not get along, but as time went on, the bond between the two grew stronger, and gradually, a mutual feeling was developed between the two. Ding Xian is an obedient child. She took her mother’s words seriously and really cared for her father. She also cares for her younger brother even though he’s a bit annoying to me…😝 The Secret Song, στα σκοτεινά, χωρίς να έχουν την παραμικρή ιδέα για το τι θα συμβεί. But she spoiled her brother, to the point it irritates Ding Xian. If you watch enough Chinese drama, you might often find this type of mother everywhere…😠 Zhou Si Yue and His Family Ding Xian is Si Yue’s new neighbor and classmate at school. They also happen to sit next to each other in class. Ding Xian is an introvert. She is timid but can be very determined once she decides on a course of action. She also likes to draw and has a talent for it. Her father is a teacher at her school. Her mother is a housewife and a very strict parent. Ding Xian also has a mischievous younger brother, Ding Jun Cong. Supporting Characters Song Zi Qi Our Secret captures the most fragile time in students’ lives who are trapped between studies, parents’ expectations, love, and their dreams. Our Secret Review I really like this drama. Our Secret was heartwarming and reminded me of my high school years. It was the best time of my life, as well as the most confusing time.
Perfect for readers who love a good mix of sweet and sizzle, toe-curling kisses, swoony book boyfriends, and a happily ever after. At the same time, Si Yue also overhears Ding Xian telling Senior Su that she is under a lot of pressure and feeling tired trying to keep up with him academically in Episode 15. Hence, he doesn’t want Ding Xian to put her own interest aside to chase after him by selecting the same course and research project. So, he denies that he has feelings for her in Episode 16.And Ding Xian also taught him that it’s okay not to be perfect all the time. Zhou Si Yue didn’t realize that he was burdened by the word perfection. Everybody saw him as the epitome of perfection and he was also afraid that Ding Xian only liked him because of his perfection. Only when he was facing difficulties, Zhao Si Yue was anxious that he couldn’t protect Ding Xian as he wanted to do. Ding Xian also joined the same research project group, just to be near him. She forced herself to be with him, and she lost herself along the way. Zhou Si Yue noticed that. Hence, he tried to make her understand by rejecting her over and over again, even making it difficult for her during the research project. But he failed…😅 Rewatch and rewatch Never expected this drama to be so good. Everybody has such good chemistry and the plot is so good. Bear in mind that this is a school/youth genre, so don't expect too much crazy plot twists or strong villains.
In the last episode, Senior Su tells Si Yue that he will be going abroad and may not make it to their wedding. He also tells Si Yue to treat Ding Xian well. The Side Couples In my opinion, if Su Bo Cong was in the same grade as Ding Xian, he might have had an equal chance to pursue her. He was off of her radar because he left high school earlier than her and because of Zhou Si Yue who sat next to her, his presence was drastically reduced to non-existence..😅 Zhou Si Yue and Ding Xian’s Relationship Although they start dating at a late stage, their growing feelings for each other is already obvious by Episode 11. It is just that those feelings are left unspoken as they were still high school students then. Is There A Breakup? It was super smooth for both of them. No parent’s disagreement or rejection. The only thing that they have to handle is a pot of porridge made by Mrs. Ding…😂 The ConclusionSi Yue is a top student at school. He is a very intelligent guy with a talent in maths. He is also into programming and robotics. Although Si Yue is not the sociable type, he has many admirers due to his good looks and intelligence. Si Yue’s father is a professor at a prestigious university while his mother is a housewife. Ding Xian the side characters weren't annoying. they had their own story to tell, making us cheer for them even with the little screen time they had. I loved the friendship among all of them. Sweet interactions between the male lead and female lead. How Si Yue is protective of Ding Xian, how he looks at her and how they both constantly support each other.
