About this deal

Audioengine A2+ has woofer and tweeter in it. It is suitable for music, movies and games. Voices are crystal-clear and the soundstage is good. It can deliver natural sound that is closer to the original recording. Bass is quite good and remains enjoyable for most contents. In case you are a bass head, an external subwoofer is best for you. The entry-level Bronze 50 is bigger and more of a 'proper' stereo speaker than the outgoing Bronze 1, too, which was often thought of as more of a satellite speaker for surround systems. Switching to Melody Gardot’s The Absence shows off the Bronze’s even tonal balance and their impressive agility. They’re upfront, punchy and decently precise, and Gardot’s distinctive voice is well-projected and securely placed front and centre.

We move to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and the 50s' lovely staging and focus comes to the fore. The imaging is precise, nicely layered and stable, and the sound projects well clear of the speaker cabinets. A 140mm C-CAM mid-bass driver sits underneath. Here, “The new straight-sided conical diaphragm geometry found in the range has been designed specifically to reduce the effects of the naturally occurring ‘cone breakup’ resonance by giving a controlled and damped response. Colouration and distortion are significantly reduced.” A classic two-way reflex-ported design, it measures 166x281x265mm (WxHxD) and weighs 5kg. Unusually perhaps, its tweeter is set a behind flexible protective grille which is covered in hexagonal perforations which, Monitor Audio promises, has “as little impact as possible on the high-frequency acoustic performance”. The 25mm C-CAM high-frequency unit sports a dome made from aluminium/magnesium alloy and coated with gold-coloured ceramic – of which you can see hints through that grille. A vented neodymium magnet is fitted, and the company’s so-called Uniform Dispersion Waveguide is used, which is a curved surround that looks a little like a shallow horn. Interestingly, the C-CAM 140mm mid/bass driver also has a ceramic-coated aluminium/magnesium alloy cone – this time silver rather than gold coloured. For many years, the Monitor Audio Bronze range has been the choice of critics and audiophiles on a budget alike. Now in its sixth generation, the Bronze is better than ever. Improvements to the famous metal drive units makes the sound more focused and lifelike. A crisp new design with contemporary finishes makes this the coolest Bronze yet. Once the amplifier connection is complete, then connect desired audio sources (TV, laptop, CD player, turntable, etc) to the amp and listen to their content via the speaker. Use case:

Summary

It’s fortunate that companies can do this because the margins on budget products are slim indeed so every last slice of sound quality matters. Also because budgets are now efficiently exploited, a few pounds extra in the kitty means a big difference in terms of final sound quality. It continues to amaze me just how good modern budget speakers are these days. The Bronze 100 speakers, which might be viewed as being a step above that level, continues that quality. They offer neutrality and balance with plenty of detail yet there’s plenty of power in reserve. Highly recommended. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 29th November 2023. You can add Klipsch subwoofer or choose from another brand like the Pioneer Elite SW-E10. In terms of placement, place the speaker such that the tweeter remains at your ear level. The user manual gives a detailed image about speaker placement showing where to place center, sub and other speakers in a theater. If you are using it as front speakers, place them 6-12’ apart. Large Appliances - (Washing Machines, Dishwashers, Fridge Freezers etc). Free Local Delivery Service (Cumbria, SW Scotland and NE England*) 2-3 working days. It is easy to connect several devices to the speaker and switch between them. We love how the speaker includes all necessary cables. Use the RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect mobiles or tabs to the speaker. You can connect TV or CD players to the speaker via optical port. Bluetooth shows stable performance and you can connect any Bluetooth enabled device including mobile, laptop, etc. Audioengine A2+ is a set of wireless speakers but needs connection between two of them. Build quality is quite good with MDF. It has internal bracing to minimize any vibration. Sound-damping material is used that eliminates any refection within the speaker. It doesn’t have any grille to protect the drivers. The speaker is video shielded so you can place it near any video monitor. Use the included remote control where you can choose inputs, initiate pairing for control volume. Physical controls are also available on one side of the remote so they are easily reachable. There are bass, treble and volume controls. We love how it allows us to tweak the sound. to switch inputs, use the volume knob on the speaker. The manufacturer quotes a frequency response of 62Hz to 25kHz in a free field (i.e. without room boundaries) and 40Hz to 30kHz in-room; cheekily though this is at -6dB points which rather flatters the figures. A growing number of manufacturers are moving away from the standard -3dB points, for some strange reason. Still, you could argue this is a little academic; the more important real-world measurements are nominal impedance (specified at 8 ohms, so it’s an easy load) and sensitivity (85dB/2.83v/1m, which is on the low side, so you’ll need a reasonably powerful amp to drive it). Hence the mids from an acoustic guitar here offered more twang and metallic crispness while the bass had greater impact and tonal balance. Featuring 85db sensitivity, you might think that these speakers need serious muscle to drive but any amplifier from 20W upwards will be fine. Generally speaking, if you have a look at woofer size then the Silver 100 7G from Monitor Audio has a larger driver of 8”. The Bronze 50 has only a 5.25” driver. Silver 100 7G is a bigger speaker than the Bronze 50. For small spaces with space limitations, Bronze 50 is a better choice, and it also costs less than the Silver 100 model. If you have medium to large rooms, the Silver 100 7G will suit you and you will not need an additional subwoofer. Where should I place a subwoofer with Monitor Audio Bronze 50 speaker?
