QUESTION: I use the Mind Over Mood depression and anxiety inventories with my clients. Do you have cut-off scores and norms I can reference? ANSWER: from Christine A. Padesky, PhdAs a clinical social worker and marriage and family therapist, I have been using "Mind Over Mood" with my clients for close to a decade. It is an essential part of therapy for a certain portion of my patient population who respond best to a cognitive behavioral approach. Dennis Greenberger is a clinical psychologist and the co-author of Mind Over Mood. He has over 30 years of experience helping people to improve their mental health. He is also a professor at the University of California, Irvine. This book is written to supplement CBT for a client. It is meant to give the therapist a structure to work to and the client a reference and enlargement of what was said in therapy. Arguably, if the therapist is experience neither of these is necessary. However, if the therapist is still gaining their confidence this book in invaluable.

Dr. Christine Padesky is a clinical psychologist and co-founder of the Center for Cognitive Therapy in Huntington Beach, California, and co-creator of Strengths-Based CBT. General description Cognitive Therapy with Couplesby Frank Datillio and Christine A. Padesky (Professional Resource Exchange, 1990) The authors take us step-by-step in understanding these patients' conditions; their altered perspectives, their thought processes, and the reasons behind their personal views and triggers. And with these case studies the reader is taught how thoughts, moods, environment, events influence each other and ultimately drive specific feelings. This is how the authors teach us "Mind over Mood". Cognitive therapy is a powerful and useful method but I suspect many patients give up because it takes a lot more effort than pharm-therapy. The reader/patient must take full ownership of the process and then not quit. Founding Member of the World Aging and Brain Health Institute (WABH I). The Institute consists of prominent international leaders and researchers, whose research contributions provided the inspiration and academic substance behind the Fountain of HealthInitiative for Optimal Aging. It also discusses how to deal with difficult emotions, such as anger, anxiety, and depression. Overall, the book is a helpful guide for anyone who wants to improve their mental health.

Discover simple yet powerful steps you can take to overcome emotional distress—and feel happier, calmer, and more confident.

Mooney, K.A. & Padesky, C.A. (2000). Applying client creativity to recurrent problems: Constructing possibilities and tolerating doubt. Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy: An International Quarterly, 14 (2), 149-161. Collaborative Case Conceptualization: Working Effectively with Clients in CBTby Willem Kuyken, Christine A. Padesky, and Robert Dudley (Guilford Press, 2009)I have used Mind Over Mood in my clinical work with patients for 20 years and have found that the second edition is even more helpful than the first. It is a great book for adults and not such a great book for kids, as it is not written at their level, and as the clinical vignettes are about adults with adult problems. Mind Over Mood is an amazing resource that any adult could benefit from reading and practicing the exercises it contains. The worksheets in the book can be a helpful resource to work on with a therapist trained in CBT, especially because it can be hard for people to effectively complete a thought record on their own. The Clinician’s Guide to CBT Using Mind Over Mood(2nd edition) by Christine A. Padesky with Dennis Greenberger (Guilford Press, 2020) Mind Over Mood is considered a classic in the field of cognitive behavioral therapy and has helped countless people improve their lives. The book starts by discussing the difference between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It then goes on to talk about how our thoughts can influence our emotions and behaviors. The book provides exercises for helping us to change our thinking patterns and improve our moods. Cited as “The Most Influential Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy Publication” by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies. Find this book
