About this deal

The homoerotic overtones of The Vampire Chronicles are also well-documented. [12] [13] [14] [15] Susan Ferraro of The New York Times wrote that "Gay readers see in the vampires' lonely, secretive search for others of their kind a metaphor for the homosexual experience." [16] In 1996, Rice commented: From Nobody to Nightmare: Lestat was an illiterate, impoverished actor when Magnus turned him into a vampire. 200-odd years later, he's one of the most dangerous creatures on Earth— and possibly Heaven and Hell, too. Not to mention, Akasha states that she spared some of the vampires who were not old and powerful yet because Lestat loved them. Louis and Gabrielle fall under this as well.

Artistic License – History: Louis and Claudia reach Paris in September 1870 and enjoy Parisian culture and arts, such as the Opera... during the Franco-Prussian War, when Paris was under siege for 5 months and full of soldiers, while the entire population slowly starved. Finally the most horrific thing about Memnoch The Devil that I think Anne Rice, herself, doesn't realize. Her depiction of The Devil and God imply that The Devil is not all evil and God is... not that nice. In fact he's kind of petty and cruel. But this is the adventure that makes Lestat become a pious Catholic by Blood Canticle? He was raging against it at the end of Memnoch The Devil. What the Hell happened? Lestat de Lioncourt – The main character of the story and the past four books, Lestat was created by a powerful vampire named Magnus, who promptly cremated himself after creating his heir. Lestat is a relatively "good" vampire, only feeding on those he deems evil after reading their minds. In previous books, Lestat made the man named David Talbot a vampire by force, an action that went against vampire law. Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Almost any dark-haired vampire will become this, but it's clearly indicated that Louis, Eleni, and Enkil qualify. Akasha takes it up a notch in The Queen of the Damned. To a lesser extent, Armand, who was turned when he was only a young teenager. This actually helps him seduce literally almost anyone he comes across due to his boyish looks amplified by his vampirism, which brings out their beauty ten-fold.

Dirty Old Man: David worries that he's one, having slept with two much-younger Talamasca employees. Memnoch's literary name, Lucifer, is Latin for "Light Bringer" or "Morning Star", the latter of which is associated with the planet Venus. Although the novel fits into the storyline of The Vampire Chronicles, the vast majority of it consists of Memnoch's account of cosmology and theology. The novel follows up on claims made by David in The Tale of the Body Thief that God and the Devil are on better terms than most Christians believe. It also reinterprets biblical stories to create a complete history of Earth, Heaven and Hell that fit neatly with the history of vampires given in The Queen of the Damned.

Absurd Cutting Power: Even though the Elder states that you couldn't cut Akasha's skin without killing weaker vampires, and Lestat likens it to marble, no ill effects become apparent when her devotees feed from her, and Mekare decapitates her with shards of glass while pushing her through a window. One scene in Memnoch The Devil that I felt was completely unnecessary was the scene of Lestat drinking the blood from the character, Dora's, Sanitary napkin. What was the point of this? Was Anne Rice going through her monthly cycle when writing this and wanted imagine a way to end it a lot faster?Evil Takes a Nap: The first vampire Akasha and her consort fell into slumber for millennia as their thirst for blood diminished. In The Queen of the Damned, Lestat accidentally wakes Akasha with his music, so she sets out to cull the vampires and Take Over the World.
